So I had Bestbuy try to install a Viper remote start #4105V. Have had my truck for about 5 hours on two seperate days this week and they couldnt get it to work. They tried multiple Viper units as well as 2 different types of modules. The tech believes the problem is with the module they are using but they only carry 2 brands and have tried both. He did mention that at one point the remote start was working but would shut down after like 10 seconds and then try to restart.

Anyone have any ideas on what I should try next? Really want a remote start but starting to get frustrated. These are the modules they were using. Anyone had luck with these or did you use a dif module?

From what I understand the problem is with the latest firmware version on these modules having some type of compatibility issue with some Toyota vehicles.

Still no word from Best Buy on a possible solution.

Hoping someone has installed one recently with a different module other than these and had success so I can maybe try one more time. At this point I'm about over it though, this whole experience has sucked big time.

yep bank account is running low from it..
wait on Dei for the firmware update on the unit.. DEI is about one the best when it comes to key transponder bypass units.

But,, with the above said.... im going to assume the tech did the update to the unit for the tundra.. If he didnt it has the problems that you are having now tho.

If not give DEI a email see what they say.

let us know what the outcome is? other guys have had vipers so that's not issue. good luck! looking into this as well. WI winters can get chilly, but new house has a spot for her so she won't be cold this winter!

DEI does an excellent job of avoiding conflict. They wont give you a number to call or an e-mail to reach them at. You hit "contact us" and it just keeps redirecting you to useless pages that don't actually have contact information but tell you to go talk to the dealer you got it from.

Im over it and done with this bullshit. Hope whoever else tries to install remote start has better luck than I did. No way in hell I'm ever going back to bestbuy for anything.

Rather freeze my dick off in the mornings than deal with this any longer.

Well I finally stumbled on an e-mail address for their Canada headquarters since they wouldn't list one for the U.S.

    Can anyone translate this response?

    "Hello Michael,

Thank you for contacting Directed. We only have a solution for the “G” key version of your Tundra. If your vehicle is not a “G” key we do not have a solution unfortunately. Please note any of our authorized dealers have access to a tech line where our Master installers will assist them installing the product. We are not aware of any issues with the “G” key at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience this has cause you. Please follow this link to find an authorized dealer near you. http://www.directed.com/Contact/WhereToBuy.aspx

    Best Regards"

My car key has a "G" on it. And I think that has to do with the transponder I believe. Is that what they're talking about.

Mike, is there another Best Buy around you can try? Maybe it's just the installers there. And wait, don't you live in Florida? Why do you need remote start?

Haha I just think it would be nice to have up at my farm during hunting season which is about 30 minutes below Georgia so it gets pretty chilly in the mornings. Also would be nice some days when its 100 degrees outside to cool the truck off before I hop in!

Nope this is the only Best Buy within about 100 miles of me so I'm pretty much SOL because I'm not paying the local "Safe & Sound" guy an extra $200 than what BB charged me.

The install guy seemed pretty knowledgeable and has apparently installed these systems on many different vehicles. He also said that he had tech support walk him through it to make sure he did everything right, but who knows if that's true.

Oh, didn't even think about cooling the truck. Damn, we have a Best Buy every 10 minutes here. Hang in there, I know you're ready to punch someone in the face.

Having done the installation by myself and ran into same problems like yours ( truck remotely started running for about 3 second and shuts off)but I've just figured it out by talking to the customer service at Directech @ 800-361-7271
You might want to ask the tech at Bestbuy looking at this particular issue :
The Dball2 bypass has to have the GWR (ground while running ) wire connected either in
W2W( wire to wire) or D2D (data 2 data) mode in order to activate the bypass itself for most the 3Rd gen tundra.
It can be done by connecting this GWR wire to an output wire from the remote starter that puts out constant (-) 500ma or less when the remote starter system activated ...

Hope this will help ,email me if you have any other questions about !
