As a class A CDL holder, y'all are scaring the hell out of me. Hauling a load double the capacity of the vehicle is like me loading my 80000lbs truck to 160000 lbs. And yes, you can get an overweight ticket, and other citations. Get in a accident being over gross weight. Your insurance probably wouldn't even pay the claim... just a fyi... cya!

This ranks up there with the dumbest threads I have ever seen. Isn't there something in the COC about not posting anything that displays reckless driving??
Just because the truck will move with the massive amount of weight you guys are putting in your beds, doesn't mean that it "takes it like a champ". Why is it so hard for some people to pay attention to payload ratings? Things react very differently - including, as someone already mentioned, "squirrely steering".

Take more trips. Or buy a heavier duty truck. The Tundra is not known for it's payload capability. Actually, the Tundra's payload capability is almost laughable.

Good grief. Lives can change in an instant.

I’m curious how much it actually weighs. It looks really heavy. But are they bags of mulch? Or are they bags of gravel? His truck is leveled in the front, that makes it look squatted that much more in the rear with weight. Just curious if it would look that bad with stock rake in the truck. I am in no way condoning overloading the truck. I don’t like how top-heavy it looks.

In the HAUL thread, the OP indicated he estimated it at 2800 lbs. More than double the payload for a CM.

Our local quarries will not let you out of the property overloaded. You need to show vehicle registration before loading.. I see a lot of pickups not happy they can only get 500-600 lbs

just for some background guys who are advising against it saying I was crazy for doing it I ordered 120 bags of mulch for 1.80 from 4.99 at Lowe’s I went outside and talked to the guy in the garden center and showed him my receipt I had no idea what I had gotten myself into he said there’s no way he could fit 120 bags of mulch in my truck I had never purchased mulch I thought it was extremely light. So he said he would just throw half of it in the back he used the word “throw” never mentioned a freaking fork lift never mentioned the word pallet. I went inside to modify the receipt to show 60 being picked up today and 60 being picked up tomorrow when I come back out my tundra is loaded with a pallet that looked like someone is building the dammed Tower of Babel in the back of my truck me being ignorant when it comes to truck loading totally believed the guy when he says it’s normal for the truck to sag a little because it’s leveled and that the mulch is not that heavy. I did not realize how overloaded the truck was till I got home and did the math on the bags that’s why I’m doing two trips today and thats why I asked if I overloaded it in this forum I was actually happy the tundra had no issues doing this it rode great I treated it like a freaking princess. I’m not doing it again I was humoring everyone on this thread I don’t want to relive going down a busy road at 20-25 mph where the speed limit is 55. At least now I got a story to tell it may include me being an idiot but hey that’s life you live and you learn worst case scenario I would have broke something...good the truck has 1700 miles on it and I’ve already been itching to redo the rear suspension I would of had an excuse.

When the rear leaf springs are in need of replacement, is there a heavier duty option out there?

Fixed it for you... no one gives a shit if you break your own truck, we generally care about your ability to stop and turn on command. The engineers didn’t just decide to rate tundras with shitty mpg and payloads for fun, that’s just the way they are built.

Does Lowe's not deliver in your area? I bought roofing shingles for my house from them a few years ago, and they delivered to my house next day for free.

Split it into two loads for the second pallet that’s what 30 bags looks like.

Still might be overloaded with you in the truck. There is a sticker on the driver's side door post that tells you what your payload is for your specific truck. On my '13 CM, the payload is 1325 lbs on the sticker. I added about 100 lbs of skid plates and a spray in bedliner, so it is a little lower than that.

You said each bag weighs 44 lbs. 30X44 = 1320 lbs. Add your own weight to the mix, and you are pushing the limits of the advertised payload rating for a CM SR5 4X4 of 1560 lbs. I am betting that your payload rating is lower than what is advertised, since you have the added weight of the nerf bars.
