    Hi everyone,

When people discuss upgrading their audio system, do they mainly mean they want a lot of bass? I want to upgrade my system but I see all of these package prices include 12" and 10" woofers. I just want crystal clear music and absolutely don't want anyone else to hear me.

It's so damn annoying when my kids are sleeping and somebody drives by our house on full blast. I get it, I was an 18 year old kid with two 10" subs in an SUV wanting to make sure everyone heard me coming. Now I want far less attention and I live a less-intrusive life altogether.

I know the ********* packages have high reviews, is this mostly for the boom? I'm not an audiophile but my needs are much different so I want to make sure I understand today's aftermarket. I'm looking for crisp/clear/quality sound with only enough bass to match the song.

Is their an "Old man" package? Is that called stock?

A great system CAN boom, but that’s up to the user. I’ve got thousands $ into an upgraded system and I don’t boom...unless the wife wants to throw it back to 2001 for a laugh. You’ll want to upgrade the head unit, switch the door speakers from 6x9” to 6.5”, that’s the first step. After that, you can add amp and sub, if desired, by no means does amp/sub = boom, it equals great sound. Boom is up to user and song choice. I couldn’t make my Led Zeppelin boom if I wanted to...maybe a few songs...good luck.

    Stock for now
From one old man to another...

I'm just about ready to upgrade to an aftermarket headunit. Partially for improved sound and partly added functionality. Not being an audiophile either, I don't really need to do a full system upgrade and the stock speakers with a better headunit driving them will be more than fine for my needs. I also get the additional benefit of adding a touchscreen and Android Auto to a truck with a non-entune plain old stock headunit.

I got a lot of improvement from the stock speakers after replacing the head unit. I feel like the clarity and fullness of the sound is at a much more acceptable place, like the stock HU just didn't have nuts when you tried to turn up the volume. I also added a 10 inch sub, just to round out the low end, not for the booms.

I'm still planning on adding a 4 channel amp and components in the doors/dash, but my current setup will get me by for a while.

Most want new features like Bluetooth connection and hands free calling, not changing anything else. Playing Spotify without commercials with my playlist.

Getting a 50 watt x 4 HU gives the stock speakers way more sound.

(Middle aged dude) Installed Pioneer 8100-NEX in Gen2 for bluetooth and back-up camera. The sound difference is night and day. I have no plans to upgrade stock speakers.

Another old guy input. I'm half death, (huh?) gave up upgrading stereos long time ago. I would like a new HU that gives AndroidCar or whatever it is. I could care less about upgrading the speakers and stuff.

From what I've heard, I bet an OEM+ kit would work best for you.

    Lost track after #1.
I'm with you on this one. When I was young, boom was all the rage. Now that it's a few decades later, having a clean, full-range of sound is more important to me. I still like a full range of bass, but definitely don't want it overriding everything else. I'm looking strongly at the OEM Audio+ Reference 500Q (as I don't have the JBL system) because of those reasons.

Having a full set of speakers in your truck doesn't mean you have to bring the bass all the way up.

You can adjust it for the sound you want. I am 50 and have a speaker behind my seat that would shake paint off the walls if I set it to

If you install a new HU and still need some base, you can install something like this. Compact Sub.

It'll take a lot more than a speaker upgrade to disturb the neighbors. You'll be fine.

Amazing performance from a small package.
