They’re getting ready to pave my n’hood today. Right now they’re using a big machine to remove the old ashpalt. It actually comes up pretty fast. Then, they use some sort of big street sweeper looking thing and that throws the dust and chips everywhere. It makes a big mess.

There’s a bunch of black dust, small pebbles all over the road, it’s pretty nasty.

What should i do to protect my beautiful WHITE Tundra as the paving process plays out??

I’m concerned about this crap sticking to my truck. I don’t know if you can get it off once it gets on the truck..

I suggest 2mph for real and when leaving don't throw it all over start slow and hopefully it will all come off the tires on the road not your truck. Nice truck btw !

The thingie removing the road is a milling machine. Unless your parked right underneath it you are in good shape. See if you can get a couple loads of that stuff. It's really good for making a driveway or parking spot. Lay it out, and roll it in. After the put the new asphalt down stay off of it for a day and you will have no problems. This is what I do for a living.

The milling machine is bad ass. That thing is chewing thru the road like it's nothing.

How much do each one of those bits cost?? That milling machine must have a bunch of them. I notice the milling thing just sorta creeps along, does not move quickly but it removes so much material it ends up being 'fast' cuz it doesn't miss anything.

Oh yea.. this makes sense. They painted all the manholes last week. Was wondering what that was about.

.. and there's about 10 dump trucks lined up, hauling off the waste. What do they do with all the waste? Does it get recycled and used again or just go to the dump? Seems like maybe they can somehow use again..

It can be recycled. They can run up to 25% rap (used material) back into new asphalt.

I'm not sure where they get it from but they're going like crazy. I hope they don't just leave the roads all tore up

Just be aware of the man holes. They will be sticking up a couple inches. True, they may leave it for a while. Send some heat up this way please. Its 34 right now and I'm sick of being cold!

When they get ready to pave there will be a tanker truck similar to a water truck in front of the paving operation. This truck sprays tack oil down before the new asphalt goes down. Stay off the tack! I'm an estimator /PM for a paving company and I also have a white tundra. You can get tack oil off your truck but it's not fun. After they pave and the mats cooled and opened to traffic you should be fine.

We try to keep the milling whenever possible. The milling are used as RAP (recycled asphalt product ) when making new mix. "Asphalt, smooth, quiet, 100% recyclable"

I looked for this rig today, didn't see it yet.

Once milling operations start, how long before paving starts? Do companies want to do that right away or are they fine waiting several days before paving?

Weather looks good this week in my area so it should be dry.

Funny. I talked with the crew today and told them to just use concrete and they lost it. Told me all about how much concrete sucks and asphalt is the way to go, etc. Not sure which is cheaper but guessing asphalt by the way they reacted.

Either or. We do jobs on the pa turnpike that have to be done the same day. Mill and pave. Or you can mill and it can sit for months. Just keep an eye out for that tac truck.

Just drive across everybody's lawn until they get it squared away. Your neighbors won't mind and after seeing you do it they'll probably do the same.
