Is it a good idea to modified the Tyger Star Armor running board to rock slider? I'm planing to cut the original attach point and weld the new bar connect to the frame.

That’s a good question... haven’t seen anyone do that before. I know the steps are a cheaper option but I would be curious as to what grade metal they are made with. I hate to go through all that hassle only for them to get crushed the first time you hit a boulder.

The info just said Heavy-duty 2 inch diameter tubes. I don't know what grade metal they are using. But they are kind of rock solid metal step.

I guarantee that the metal they use is very thin walled more like a normal tube steps and won't handle the abuse that sliders will. I have Shrockworks on my 4Runner and they weigh 110lbs for the pair and they're made in the US not China.

I wouldn't. Sliders are expensive for a reason. The materials are more expensive because they are stronger. Price out some 120 wall DOM, ERW, or even CDS and you'll see that making the Tyger steps out of these things AND keeping their pricepoint is neigh impossible. You'll probably fold the steps into your rocker the first time you drop onto a rock.
