Has anyone experienced a separation of the window trim? Any suggested fixes?

Yes, my neighbor did on his new 18. He took it back and they replaced it.

If you're out of warranty, 3M weatherstrip adhesive (black) applied liberally. If you eventually have to replace the trim, the weatherstrip adhesive will be tough to clean up. I would cross that bridge when I came to it. :proposetoast:

Use some duct tape from hell to pull it flat until the adhesive cures. It's going to be tough to get it to lay down perfectly flat at the edges. Tension in the elastomeric door trim is causing it to lift and curl at the corner. I've seen it before on old Yotas.

I ordered replacement window trims for my daughter’s Tundra and my wife’s Sequoia from @Roman . Very easy to change out.

Hahaha I literally drove over to my truck just to make sure it wasn’t doing it. So far everything looks OK, both sides.

Don’t forget the plastic molding on top of the cab. That’s either coming out, or it’s going to.

I have the typical gap that’s been there since day one. But it hasn’t come off yet. I do have 100 K warranty bumper-to-bumper. Hopefully it reveals itself during that time if it’s going to.

It hasn’t come loose on my 17 yet, but on my 2011 it came loose while I was cruising down the freeway. It started slapping the window and scared the hell out of me.

So did you just glue it down? Or do they now make a revised version?

Similar thing happened on my 86 4Runner. Funny how engineering f'ups transfer through the automotive DNA; thankfully Toyota has fewer than others.

The rear slide window channel pulled out the upper rear corner on both sides. Became visible after 5-10 years, presumably because the rubber shrinks with heat and UV exposure. Since there was really no flat surface to cement to the body surface, it stayed that way, in between fix attempts, for the next 20 years. But...it never leaked through.

If you're going to use weather strip adhesive (and I highly recommend that you do...3M), READ the instructions as it is a contact cement and requires a specific technique to use correctly!

I totally believe, it's just funny how often I get lured outside lol

On a serious note, I'd probably pull it out some more, drape something over to protect the metal frame and take a heat gun so the plastic trim bends towards the truck, then 3M it down.

I have the same thing on the front of the right rear door. I'll probably use the corner of the front loader on my tractor to push on it till the glue's dry. I'd use a D4 Cat, but I don't have one of those.

Just roll your truck over on its side until the glue dries. Or you could throw rocks at it with pinpoint accuracy. That should do it

Dude I was crying when I wrote that! It made me laugh so much. Maybe it’s the hangover, but I just envisioned someone throwing rocks at the truck to fix it.

I think this may be my next go to quote for people who post questions and never come back for a follow up. Having electrical problems? Throw rocks at it. What size tires will fit? Throw rocks at it. Knock over 40 mailboxes? Throw more rocks at it with pinpoint accuracy. That should do it.

Sorry for getting off track everybody

I’m pretty sure Ron is serious though. It’s actually not a bad idea. Would probably hold much better than just duck tape while the glue dries.
