Information regarding door speaker installations are all over this forum. I wanted to create this thread to consolidate this information so it would be easier for everyone to lookup the information.

I have already installed @james@tech12volts subwoofer upgrade. Very satisfied with that so I went ahead and purchased the door kit from James that includes 4 sets of Hertz components.

I am very happy with the sound from just these two door speakers. It cleans up the sound. The highs are crisper and the mods are cleaner. The stock speaker mids would distort under high volume. I can even turn up the bass on the eq now and I don’t get any distortion.

I was able to install the front door speakers today and wanted to share how I did it. I’m sure there are other/better ways but this is how I did it. Use it to your discretion.

Keep in mind this is on my Platimum w jbl. It will be different if you don’t have factory tweeters.

I used this video on how to remove the door panel.
    https://youtu.be/2KHUaUM_q28

The mid is pretty self explanatory. Remove the stock speaker/bracket with philips screwdriver.

Install the new hertz mids onto James supplier 6x9 adaptor bracket using the small pan head philips screws. Install the supplied wire harness.
Use the long screws supplied by James to install the speaker/bracket onto the door. Install the supplied wire harness.
I ran the wire behind then bracket out the top. Just be careful not to pinch it when you screw on the bracket. Plug into the stock speaker harness.

The tweeter was not so straight forward. I was first going to use hot glue to keep it behind the stock speaker grill.

Remove the stock tweeter from the sail panel. It is held in by 3 pressure clips. No need to unscrew the bracket.
Drop the new tweeter in the sail panel and use the speaker ring that the hertz came with to keep the tweeter in place. It will actually clip onto the factory clips on the sail panel. The harness that comes with the tweets are super long. I cut it to shorten it and re-solder it together. Then I used positaps to tap into the factory tweeter wires. I did not want to cut the stock harness.

I also placed some sound mats on the door skin and also on the lower door area. I get no rattles on my initial test.

Overall I am very happy with the results. There are better sounding systems out there but for a pure replacement speaker swap I give this 5 stars!

    Rear door speakers

I used this video as a reference
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Cwp_6jSbnms

Install was similar to the front.

I used the retainer clip like the front to keep the tweeter in the stock tweet location.
    77204370-CCE1-4A55-A048-DC8CC72B98B3.jpg

I broke off that back of the factory tweeter and plugged it back into the factory plug. Forgot who figured it out but thanks!
    67359CD9-570D-4FE1-BB97-A3C3F4DB0765.jpg

The new tweeter is ran and wired in parallel with the new mid speaker harness.

About the easiest thing is to search YouTube for “*********” as they have detailed videos for all the doors, sound matting, amps installs, etc. Just swap out for your equipment.

No. I was tempted but I really just wanted to get rid of the distornion from the stock mids.

For some reason I never learn anything from those videos....

Just put sound mat on any open space. I took some photos on the rear door. See post #2. I believe the positap I used is for 18-22ga. It’s all pink. You can also use the connectors James sends. But you would have to cut your harness.

Updated post #2 with rear doors. I’m very satisfied with these speakers. Wondering what the dash speakers sound like.

Bluebottle, the hertz you installed were the k170s? I’ve got a 2016 1794 with the jbl and am really annoyed by the stock sound system. Thanks for the great write up.

Do you have these speakers and an aftermarket head unit with the JBL amp still in place or did you change your amp? I recall you just changing head units and getting a maestro?

Trying to decide if I'm gonna do my kenwood headunit and maestro or go ahead and install an amp to power it all. Dont wanna end up doing 2 installs. I hate ripping the dash and interior out

Do just the headunit alone first. So you can tell me how the sound changes as that’s was my original plan lol

@Pudge its easy to remove the radio anyway if you do decide to do the amp later.

I've got a guy who will do full install for $50 so not a huge deal. The amp is a good amp JL 300/4 thatll have to be bridged and tuned which he will do for me. Amp is $200 and I need $100 worth of wires to connect it and the speakers to it . Just had Hope's of keeping the cost down. Oh well.

I got a huge sound improvement just changing HU's and nothing else last fall. Can't wait to clean up the output with these speakers.

If I get a box behind the seats, I'll upgrade the amp then.

Phoenix Android HU, not for everyone, can be finicky to set up. Mine's perfect.

However I've read any HU upgrade will improve the sound quality.

Steering controls work. The stock HVAC panel is removed which gives the HU its vertical size. The HU's knobs/buttons do what they're supposed to, some without the display booted up which is why I recommend the button version, not the one without. It's also easier to reach a physical volume button than a digital one.
