Tech Stream in 2019

Hi guys, please feel free to link me to a thread should it exist that already covers this. If it doesnt...

I've found lots of talk about this and the hoops most have to jump thru to get the software installed, avoid viruses, configure the drivers correctly, etc.

But still, reading the reviews, it sounds like the process isn't as straight forward as it could be. Also I'm seeing that this might only work for up to 2017s?

Long story short: what options are there today for a streamlined install, using the latest Tech Stream software and OBD cable to configure a 2019 Tundra? In other words, if you were starting over today, what cable would you buy and which software would you download and from where? Or maybe there's a stand alone device available these days that doesn't break the bank?

TechStream works just fine in my 2018. That said, all of the copies you'll find on eBay are bootleg versions so we can't link you to them. I can say that I was able to get a $20 version up and running, just needed to use a 32-bit version of Windows to get the drivers to load correctly. Shoot me a PM if you need some more help.

 

Roger that. So step one is to get a WinXP 32 bit version running somewhere (I'll probably use VMWare; very familiar with that tool), then acquire a compatible cable, and obviously the software.

Used a friend's laptop techstream & cable to turn off seatbelt chimes in my 2019 Tundra today. The sw vehicle year only went up to 2016, but it worked without issues. He got the setup for his 2018 Taco.

 

I bought a version & cable off Amazon for around $40, works on my 17 Tundra and my wife's 18 4Runner. Install went fairly easy, just a matter of getting the driver config right.

 

I got mine from eBay cable and software. Turned off the seatbelt chime and added new tpms’s on My 19dc. I have 2 vwesions, the newer version in on my 64 bit laptop but crashes when I try to get into data list for tpms but worked great for the seatbelt chime. I used the older 32 bit version on my other laptop for tpms and no problems.

 

The CD should have instructions on how to complete the registration. It's not a legit copy, so you aren't going to find legit support for it...

 

What cable did you buy and where did you get the software?

 

pretty much any of them will work. there are several things that wont work with the bootleg techstream (all of them) is programing TPMS, have yet to successfully pull that off on my truck or other toyotas.

 

Pete, look into Carista. I gave up on TS and found Carista does everything I wanted to do, without the headache. And nice bonus always having a way to read trouble codes right now, without a laptop.

 

There is another Techstream post with a g-drive link to the app. Buy the cable ($15) and follow the install instructions found along with the files in the shared drive. You might have to install, uninstall and then reinstall for it to work properly with the cable. That version works with Win10 64bit.

 

look on the cd. There is probably a file named "read_me" or the like.

Open that with with notepad and read it.
