Are you looking for an extremely aggressive looking tire with gnarly sidewall and enough tread void to howl so loud you'll forget you have a custom exhaust? Keep moving then, these are not for you.

Are you looking for a reasonably priced tire with excellent road manners in all weather conditions that can also work off road? Keep reading.

These tires don't get a lot of attention in the States and I'm not sure why. I can only guess that they don't look cool enough. I have been eyeballing and reading up on lots of different all terrain tires over the last 6 months. As my 230k mile suspension refresh went on I knew I needed new tires soon and decided to go with these. Grab a beer from the fridge and I'll tell you why.

Ten years ago, when my truck was stock (stereo, tint, and an obnoxious flowmaster aside) I needed new tires to replace the original ones. I couldn't afford new, I looked around online which was something totally odd to me. I came across a deal too good to pass on. It was a set of 6 Axis Regulator wheels with Yokohama AT-S tires in the 285/75/16 size. For those not familiar, the owner of Axis designed those wheels for his own Tundra. I have never been a fan of fake bead locks but here is the deal, with less than 3k miles on 4 tires and the 2 others never hit pavement the guy wanted $1100. The wheels retailed $275 each and tires... who cares I was in my truck speeding along the 10 west to pick them up, windows down with my flowmaster droning harder than ever.

They were in great shape, they came off an FJ Cruiser show vehicle from the LA Auto Show. I got them home, ordered Toytec Coilovers and a week later I was driving on those tires. My experience from those was they worked very well on sand and hard packed dirt. They worked decent in mud if I had momentum but would pack up if the mud was thick enough, they weren't mudders. On pavement they felt better than the original tires and in rain they were incredibly good. Never got them into snow. I got just over 70k miles out of those tires and replaced them with Mickey ATZ. The ATZ were great tires too, but not quite as good in rain and my MPG took a hit.

Here is a picture of the one I left as a spare, I got a pretty good sidewall tear (not the tires fault) so I didn't drive on this one much. Just swapped that with an ATZ yesterday.

Fast forward a few years and my wife bought a Honda Element. We use that to hit the mountains for ski and snowboard weekends. It was due for new tires just after we bought it, so I went with the then newly redesigned Yokohama AT GO15. There I used the passenger car version, which has smaller and tighter tread blocks. Those have seen 2 full seasons and gone through plenty of ice and snow without chains and without fear. I have done a little bit of desert dirt road driving with them but other than that, just normal passenger car duty. The tread wear has been minimal and I honestly can't think of a single bad thing to say about them.

Here are the ones on the Honda about a week after I bought them. Cute little things aren't they? I seem to have a habit of buying tires during rainy days.

Here the same tires are around 15k miles later.

That brings us to yesterday, I paid a visit to the tire shop and had a set of the newer GO15 tires put on. It was pouring pretty good on my way home but they held well. These are E rated so sidewalls are stiffer than the D rated ATZ I replaced but nothing bone jarring. Over the next year I am going to update this thread with how these tires do in various conditions.

Here are a few pics, pardon the wet.
I didn't have any change for tread depth reference but I had a bottle cap. :D

Thanks for reading, now go do something productive and I'll post an update in a few days.

Heard/seen nothing but great things about these tires. They don't "look the part"... so they dont get the love they deserve.

I wanted them but got too good of a deal on some ST MAXX tires. The Yokohamas were expensive.

Dude, I was gonna buy those yokohama’s and I’ve posted before not a lot of people have them and I agree with you it’s because they don’t look cool enough. I like the looks of it and it’s an AT tire, realistically mud tires are for serious off-roaders and I have no need for them. I was looking at the Bridgestone AT REVO3, kumho roadventure, Hankook ATM or the Continental AT.
