Would this mod increase airflow for my CAI?

I added a cold air intake to my 2000 tundra 4.7l SR5, when I took out the OEM air box I removed the side air tube from the box and put it back on the side slot in the engine bay. I’m wondering what everyone here thinks if cutting the tube would allow in more air and be less restrictive. Submit a vote and/or let me know if I should cut the tube shorter or what you think.

    Yeah its open box. 86F2A785-3642-4C63-86B1-D5EF43D7786D.jpg

I just wanted to see if I could capture more airflow from the original side compartment hole. What do you think about modding the OEM box and putting back in with the CAI? Is there anyway to get more airflow? I noticed someone put a mod pipe that goes to the front of the grille, might do that too.

That’s makes sense. I want to see if I can mod the OEM box with the intake setup I have. I’m going to browse around and see if anyone has combined the two yet.

    Welcome!

It would need a lot of revision. I ran that same intake tube with an airbox from a Volant intake, the box helped to decrease temps by a bit but was so close to the filter on some areas that it probably lowered flow.

I did consider building a box out of aluminium sheet metal to shroud the filter and use rubber trim around the tube to act as a gasket. I planned to just use the top of the fender as a bottom of the box since I dont have a windshield washer reservoir, I have a big open hole there. Never got far enough down the list of "what's next" to try it.

Out of curiosity what state are you in?

The only way I could see the OEM box fitting with the K&N setup is if I flip the box upside down and mod it a bit. I like your idea of fabbing an aluminum sheet or maybe even 3D print a poly box if it’ll take the heat and I make enough time to put that kind of effort into this future.

I’m out of the Lone Star State of Texas.
    Excuse my responsed delay..

If you go 3d printer just remember you'll need a lid to access the filter. I'll see if I can dig up a picture of the hybrid I put together.

Cool thanks. I’m imagining a design with a deep base and a lift out access point.
