Personally, I'll go synthetic for my next trans service. As long as its dex II or III it should be fine.

Had a hell of an adventure tonight. Crack a beer and read this.

Tried to work on the truck, last time I worked on it I realized the shop which rebuilt my coilovers must have removed the upper mount and reinstalled it backwards. The 3 hole pattern is going the wrong way. It's just a little 3/8ths Allen bolt, no biggie right?

Problem is all my tools are metric. I did find a 3/8ths allen but we all know how torque impaired those are. I tried anyway and the damn bolt won't move. I realized I need a bench vise to put the upper mount into, otherwise when I torque that bolt the upper mount will pivot and hit the hydraulic line that leads to the reservoir, and I don't want that damaged. My next problem is I have a vise but no bench... because apartment life.

I hopped into the GTI and drove to Home Depot. Picked up a 3/8" Allen socket so i can use a big boy wrench. Picked up a 4 foot long 2x6 and some nuts and bolts to make a "bench" for my vise. Got back in the GTI, turned the key and all my lights flickered like it was having a seizure but it didn't crank. Spent 30 minutes checking connections, realized my bag of tools is back home in my truck along with jumper cables. My ultragauge was reading at just under 9 volts, seems like a dead battery.

I noticed a fire in a parking lot across the street. I walked closer but saw a lot of people were around, I hoped they had it under control and I went into Home Depot again to look for jumper cables. Most others have them but this Home Depot did not. I went to their restroom to take a dump and do some critical thinking. I decided I would grab the skateboard out of my GTI (yes, I'm 37 and still carry one for emergency) and ride over to the Walmart about half a mile away in the same parking lot. At first I thought of buying a new battery, but remembered I have no tools and need tools to get the battery out, so I just need jumper cables, easy right?

    20190123_182453.jpg

I hop on the skateboard and start pushing like a 37 year old. I have to pass a few stores on the way and as soon as I get near them the lights went out and I'm in the dark. I looked around, the whole parking lot was dark, real dark, and I'm wearing navy blue from head to toe speeding through a parking lot blindly on a skateboard. Smart right?

I got to Walmart and it was pretty apocalyptic, they had done their best to move all the people to the front of the store for safety reasons. I tried to sneak by but I was caught, twice, and on the second time I told the employee that I really need cables. He was cool enough to escort me to the cables with his flashlight, then back to the registers which were working fine somehow.

    20190123_190452.jpg

    20190123_190456.jpg

I left the madhouse and hopped back on the skateboard, into the darkness, and as soon as I reached my car the lights came back on. I called my wife to drive over so I can jump the car, figuring if the battery won't jump at least I can drive her car back home to get tools and buy a battery. I connected the cables and watched the ultragauge read go from 8.8 volts to 13.5 and settle there. Neutral, clutch, key, fired right up. Drove home watching the ultragauge and thinking I'll just buy a battery tomorrow.

    20190123_194943.jpg
All this because my top mount is on backwards! :rofl:butterfly effect!

I had an '04 GTI VR6. Loved that car but I couldn't drive slow in it. Every time I hit the freeway it was 100+ mph. I was either gonna get the mother of all speeding tickets or I was gonna wad it up for good. Ended up trading it in on an '06 Jeep LJ. I know, smart right.

Ive used Toyota WS atf, valvoline Max life, Mobil 1 atf and amsoil atf. Running a scangauge 2 plugged into obd, amsoil generates the lowest temps for me. Amsoil averages 140. The rest hit 170 and higher, with toyota WS going up to 190.

Yes. It's my favorite Toyota color. You're repainting your Tundra that color?

It’s my favorite Toyota color too, Yeah I’m painting it that color I build limousines so I’ve got access to a good paint booth and all the equipment I need to do it so I couldn’t justify paying someone else to do it for me.

I really wanted the VR6, I sadly passed up on a 337 model. VR6 with 6 speed and no sunroof, it was sweet but had a few bad oil leaks and wouldn't start. Got a 1.8T instead but I'm glad I did, its chipped and it flies.

I pulled some tools out of my first gen to replace the battery on my GTI. Went up from the H5 to the H6 battery, its bigger and has 100 more cold cranking amps.

I'll be doing the purge this weekend. You've convinced me to do the sacrificial one as well. I'm going to go conventional for that one because I have some at the house and then I'll go full synthetic for the last round.

Question, I assume you replaced the filter the 2nd time as well?

Steps should go something like this?

1)add liquid molly to dirty oil.

2)let idle 10 minutes then drain and swap filter.

3)add sacrificial oil and new filter. Drive for 20 miles

    4)drain and replace filter again

    5)consume beer or 2

That sounds about right. Take some pics of the dirty oils before and after each steps. You’ll be amazed.

Also, sounds like you are getting 1mpg better mileage after your other work you did. Nice!

Noticed that my ballast resisters for my LED headlights melted some shit under the hood and started to melt a connector on the factory harness.

So I mounted them on a piece of Aluminum, and drilled and tapped holes to mount them to the truck.
Now they have plenty of room and nothing will get melted.
Had to take out the battery to do the driver's side,so I put a rubber pad for the battery to sit on,and put rubber pad on the top where the battery hold down touches the battery on top.

Did the drain and fill, got almost exactly a gallon out, I feel like it shifts better after adding the mobile 1 but who knows probably just my mind.

I found out it was a small brush fire and since it was close to power lines the electric company shut power down until it was extinguished. Good guess.

What did you use to get the trans fluid back in the dip stick? I'm seen some tiny funnels for this online but never in person.

I've got one of these. If you pull the hose off it fits snugly in the transmission dipstick. Also the black part screws off and the funnel top will screw into the oil filler.
