Anyone try to remove and replace the plastic step on the Toyota factory nerf bars?

I am chrome deleting, so I bought a set of used black nerf bars that I will need to repaint. I want to transfer the new plastic steps from the chrome nerf bars over to the used ones I purchased and will repaint.

How to I remove the plastic steps without destroying them?

If you have the wide, oval steps I'm not sure about removing the pads. If you have the 3" round nerf bars that long pad will be tough to remove. That pad has a bunch of plastic posts underneath it that are held to the bat with barrel retainer clips. The posts will almost certainly snap off when you try to pull them up. If you do save the post, you'll need to replace the barrel clips.

Anyone know who is the manufacturer of the oval factory nerf bars? They look like Westin.

That would be helpful to show the locations of the tabs. If the tabs break, there is nothing Gorilla glue can’t fix.

Reviving this post - two of my 4 pads have snapped off. The pads themselves are also broken. Can you replace just the pads? If so, where can I find them? Dealer says you have to replace the entire rail $$$.

I was in the same boat earlier this year. Wanted to redo the step pads and repaint. If you can find replacement pads, (big if) they are costly. To get replacement pads for my Aaries steps would cost almost as much as buying new full steps. So I just left the faded ugly pads on and covered everything in bedliner.

The pads on most step bars cannot be removed and reinstalled. Removing them breaks the attaching clips/pins, then you need to purchase replacement pads if you can find them or just go with a new running board/step. The only other option would be to try and glue the pads back on.
