Any way to upgrade just the JBL subs?

Looks like different speaker wire.. Did you run new wire to the amp?

 

It's just larger speaker wire crimped on to the factory connector to give some slack in the line.

 

thinking about ordering as well. It sounds like it will suffice until I can afford to do the JL stealth box, new head unit and component speakers. Sounds like it's worth the $200.

Just checking, is this just the sub you guys are swapping or the entire enclosure?

I ordered a 12Volts JBL replacement for my 2010 CrewMax Friday. I have a Pioneer amp running a JL sub now that is much smaller. I have reasonable bass now.

I removed that side of the panel where the JBL sub was and would like to put it back. First, how did you guys secure the sub and how did you retain the cover panel that is behind it?

Can anyone confirm ohm reading of JBL system factory installed Subwoofer??? Does it read 1 ohm across OEM speaker posts or 2 ohms??? Sorry guys both numbers can be found in every posting on the www. Just wondering if the factory changed the design at some point in production and might explain different results for different members doing a speaker only upgrade.
Let you know what my '16 JBL reads, when I remove it. THANKS for all the help. I can't argue any route you take to improve your bass response, factory output is close to non-existent!!!!!

My 2016 JBL subwoofer resistance was just shy of 2 ohms. So I installed a
Kicker CompRT 43CWRT81
like CARMAN suggested ($112 @ Crutchfield). I wired the dual 1 ohm voice coils in series for a 2 ohm load on the amp. It is a DISTINCT improvement over stock JBL sub. It is NOT like having twin 12" subs behind the seat. Only twin 12s will give you that. The mod is well worth the $112 & 1 hour install time, IMO. Follow CARMAN's instructions and you will not have problems. I also taped the original faster holes closed, put a small amount of polyfill in and taped the enclosure seams.

 

Yea I'm good with doing that option, I would rather have two 10's or 12's behind the seat with some decent power going to them though.

Visually you can see very quickly how much more air gets moved between boxes. Bass is now present and low, doesn't sound muffled like the factory sub sounded. Solid 30 minute install...
