Jack the wheel up and pull it like your checking for ball joints if no play turn the wheel slowly see if you feel any drag during the rotation.. if not I bet it's a diff on you.

Bandit and I were chatting about it last night.

The wheels spin easy and don't have slop in them. The sound does not change at all during braking. With one wheel on the ground there is a clicking noise when spinning a wheel from the front diff. Normally if this always a limited slip or a locker this sound would not worry me a little. Maybe this is normal.

Wheels spin easy bearings are good. Have you engaged 4wd and see if there is a difference in noise by chance?

Humm, may have to drive in 4x4 from now on.

Pretty sure it is the front diff now. Definitely front end.

You sure you oil is Ok topped in the diff right?

That tells me the add in the diff is probably not releasing all the way to disengage. That's the case it in the diff.

Only thing left in play is CV axle going bad or nut at the end on axle is not to torque spec maybe.

The oil was draining out when I just changed it. Pretty full. Lol

Can the ADD be changed out or is a new diff needed?

I don't think so I'm not near my computer to double check ,I'm in the field right..

Did they call for LSD oil in the front diff also? No metal shavings in the oil correct or on drain plug correct?

The way things sound to me the diff needs to be dropped out and inspected to find the root cause.. add or just diff failure.

From what I have read on all data is the needles mess up in the diff's spline area
.... Make sure they replace your left side (driver side CV)

Thanks for all the responses. Sorry for the late reply, but I was hosting a party with a guy I served in Iraq with 24 years ago.

I towed the camper up to a friends place tonight. His driveway is pretty steep and I used 4low to get up so I could back into his garage. image.jpg

The front end under load (~7200 lbs) on a steep grade really made the front end growl. There is definitely something going wrong.

As I was waiting, snapped a picture. This is north of Woodland Park, CO.

    image.jpg

So do you guys think this failure is normal, overuse, or just a fluke?

@sdhq_offroad Cliff, you're the one of the most knowledgable tundra gurus out there. Got any thoughts as to what may be our boys issue? Aside from not having long travel or any sdhq parts obviously. No wonder his truck his broken lol

I agree. ECGS is not going to invest this kind of money without a return.

I will see what the dealership comes up with on Friday.

Personally, I can see two of these bushings, a removal tool coming my way. Might as well take care of my wife's Tacoma as well.

My Tundra has been at the dealership since 1100. Looks like the differential is the culprit, but they are also looking at the drivers side bearing hub. May be both.

    78095 miles. Hummmmm

Well it was determined that the drivers front wheel bearing is going out.

The service advisor said 1050.00 to change out wheel bearing.

I said sure, and I have Toyota care, so I will pay my deductible.

The money signs in his eyes went away....
