I'm considering 2 options for my 06 tundra. A 4.7l just doesn't seem enough so I would either like to swap for a 5.7 or turbo the 4.7, does anyone have suggestions or other ideas...

Depends on what you want out of it....supercharger is by belt and turbo by exhaust...if you want massive power twin turbo is where it's at

A remote turbo would be sick, low boost and a good tune would probably run really well. I believe it's the connecting rods that are the weak link in our engine. Read that somewhere I think.... I think I'm gonna stick with intake, exhaust and headers for mine. It does what I need it to do. Hard to ask a 4.7 to perform like a 6.2

Was thinking of rebuilding the block, has 200k miles and wanting to living up the truck and either replace with bigger or rebuild and add power...not sure which is the better option or best option

This. 2UZ rods are cast. Running any kind of forced induction on them and poof. Babies in the oil pan.
Short of doing a completely built engine, I wouldn't turbo it.

If I keep the 4.7 I was planning on rebuilding it regardless but still weighing options

What kinda yield does the typical 4.7 get from a a full exhaust with headers? Should you upgrade the intake too?

Gonna be the hater here, and say GM LS swap with giant turbo.

Depends on your power goals here though, 400whp should be doable with a newer Toyota 5.7 V8 with the blower, that combo should be reliable(it was offered with a factory warranty) provided you don't make a hack of the install and wiring. Might need the newer 6 speed automatic that came with the 5.7 V8, not sure if the current transmission(and rear end) are strong enough in your gen 1 Tundra.

To swap a 5.7 into the gen I is going to be a lot of custom work, maybe just as much as putting in a GM LS engine. And reason I say GM LS, the aftermarket is HUGE, engines are cheap, parts are cheap, lots of expertise on tuning this engine. I mean you can make a 500+whp truck with the stock 5.3 block out of a late model Tahoe or Silverado, those engines are cheap(like $500 for a low mile runner) from a junkyard.

It really is what do you want out of your truck. Reliable daily driver, I'd just upgrade to a newer Gen II Tundra with the 5.7 already under the hood.

I didn't want to be the guy who suggests putting a Chevy heart in a Toyota body, but what Aron says has been done several times and can give more bang for your buck.

Save yourself the headache and time. Do what I did and keep the 4.7. Invest in a newer tundra with the 5.7.

Is it safe to assume that going from a 4 to 12 hole injector may result in MPG loss? Or am I wrong?

I would think, probably not. It depends on where your foot is on the throttle LOL. It’s probably more efficient.

Possibly. I was just thinking if you're sucking in more fuel, and to gain more performance, you will use more. Last thing I need to is get even worse MPG LOL.

If it was carbureted (Double pumper) and you went bigger, I would say yes, worse fuel mileage.

But fuel injection, is efficient and I would assume if you drive normally it may be the same mpg or possibly better? Maybe I’m just optimistic. I do tend to drink the koolaid...

Valid point and the ecu would probably learn and adapt to the new mixture. When was the last time you drove normally after adding a “performance upgrade”?

Somewhat related but I know people that have added cold air intakes to various vehicles and gotten worse MPG.
