I need help with air bags

so I have a 2018 CM 4x4 lifted 6in. So from what I know procomp lifts them 6in in the front and 4in in the back. So the problem is that I don’t know what size spacers to use. Do I use the 6in spacers or the 4in? Can someone link me the correct spacers and what I’m planning to do is have a wireless one and then have the bags on a cradle with the spacers. I would appreciate it if someone could link me the correct spacers and let me know if what I’m trying to do will work or not.

 

I don't know anything about the cradle stuff, but the firestone ride rite system would require a 2 inch spacer with the Procomp 6 inch lift.

yes. I have the ProComp 6 inch. The spacer bolts on to each bag. Super simple, you can install the whole system in 45 mins.

 

If the back end is lifted with just a block, you shouldn't need a spacer under the bag, as the leaf springs stay in the same place relative to the frame. You will need the extended support that extends the support leg down to meet the axle tube.

 

The OP is specifically asking about a Procomp 6 inch lift which does indeed contain a AAl and a block. Based off of my own experience of installing it, if you don’t use the spacer the bag will be stretched 2 inches in the normal resting position of the suspension. It won’t look right and I’m positive unless you have Superman fingers you will not be able to stretch that bag to install it. If by the slim chance you can get it installed, you have just created the situation that we all with bags avoid when we take it in for a wheel rotation,( hanging by the bags ) That’s why people who off-road prefer the cradles..

 

Hey so I was just looking at the bags, so will the bags you linked work with my 2018 tundra? Because it says it only works with the 07-13 models.

 

I’m not sure if they changed anything on the rear. Somebody on here knows though..

I know the op is asking about spacers for the bags. But I read today, that if you use the Daystar cradles with the Firestone bags, it voids the warranty on the bags from Firestone. Just a little fyi for the guys/gals with the cradles.

But how is Firestone going to know? When it goes bad just take the cradle off and then send them over a picture or how ever it works for the warranty.

If rhe pro comp lift uses a 2" AAL and a 2" lift block, then you should have a 2" spacer under the bag and a 2" support leg extension. Without the support leg extension you are at risk of the lower bracket bending on you. I've attached a pic of the leg extension I'm talking about, you can see the original bracket, behind the leg extension, is no longer even close to resting on the axle tube.

 

The Procomp 6 inch lift doesn't use a 2 inch block. But Ok..

I'm pretty sure you would have to jump this truck to bend that lower bracket.

 

OK..., regardless if the block is 1" or 5", it will space the support leg off of the axle tube and open up the possibility of bending the lower bracket. You do what you want, I'm just saying that the proper install would result in the support leg actually making contact with the axle tube. So, however much lift the AAL gives will require a spacer that size between the bag and bracket and however big the block is, will require a leg extension that size. This all due to the fact that the firestone kit does not place the bag over the leaf springs, so any weight will need to be supported properly, a small 1/4" gap, maybe 1/2" might be ok, if it bends the bag can accept some articulation. Depending on how it bends though, you do have a small risk of tearing a bag, or if just one side bends, the truck will no longer sit level when supporting weight.

 

I agree, the support bracket wouldn't hurt. Mine has been on for 4 years so I'm leaving it. And I still believe you would have to jump this thing to bend that bracket.

So what do I need to do as far as airbags go if I have a Pro Comp 6 inch lift and have replaced my rear leafs with custom Alcans
and Coachbuilder +3 shackles?

 

I have the bags with the CB shackles and the BDS 7in lift. At one point Firestone made a bracket that would work with this loft but discontinued it. They believed it was unnecessary from their analysis. I proved otherwise as I bent the bottom bracket towing a trailer. I wish they would fabricate the extension brackets again as these bags really do need them as they are offset from the spring. They sent me new bottom brackets but I am hoping at some point to get a local shop to fab me the extension brackets.

 

Odd. If I remember correctly from the Firestone install instructions, they mention that the support “leg” may not rest on the axle tube and it’s not necessary.

My setup uses Daystar cradles, and I have Deaver U748 springs. With no load and minimal air pressure, the bags are just sitting in the cradles. Put any (10+ psi) pressure in them, and they’re starting to lift up the rear and support added weight. For reference, the Deavers are still about 3” over factory height, and the packs are much thicker than OEM. Meaning that there is about 2” more space between airbag mounts than with a stock rear suspension.

 

They still make the brackets for 2 and 3” block lifts and the spacers for the bags themselves. E trailer sells the support brackets. Would either work for ya?

I had a local shop fab the bracket extensions (and straighten out the bottom bracket) as the bottom bracket was bending again. Unless you are hauling a trailer with leaves, then I highly recommend the extensions. It was definitely the weak point in my setup. I tow a heavy two axle dump trailer and ~9K camper.
