Can't speak to your other vehicles, but I would fully expect to get some shudder on wet pavement while turning in 4WD. It's normal, but not good. I'd avoid using 4WD on non-slip surfaces, Tundra or any other 4WD vehicle.

You shouldn’t be in 4WD on any pavement unless it’s covered in ice or with like 3” of snow. There isn’t enough slippage on pavement that’s just wet with water.

So, no gravel roads or dirt roads either?

I'd say it depends on the gravel or dirt road. It's not always purely about the type of road. Is the dirt hard packed? Stone?

The question is just does the surface provide enough opportunity to slip or not.

Sometimes you get into a situation where you can't help but deal with some shudder, like if you're making a turn that you cannot make in 2WD. But IMO otherwise, if you're getting a shudder, you probably shouldn't be in 4WD.

Regular gravel road. I find it difficult to have a place to meet Toyota's recommendation to use the 4x4 once a month for a few miles. Unless it rains and I go on a dirt road for awhile, all I have is a regular gravel road.

Let me chime in here if I may. I live off road and have a gravel road. I NEVER use 4wd UNLESS it is muddy or if there is 4-6 inches of snow. IMO there is no need for it unless the roads are muddy or have snow. BTW, I live a little under a mile off the beaten path with a mostly graveled road

@Ronin73 isn’t saying he needs 4WD on gravel. He’s asking if it’s ok to use it on gravel to use the 4WD at least once a month as Toyota recommends. As long as the gravel is loose you should be fine. You can even do it on pavement as long as you’re going straight.

Don’t see why you’d need it on a gravel road unless it’s more than several inches deep
