Hey guys, yep, I got the dreaded "Bank 2 Sensor 2" error code, replaced the sensor, within 100 miles it threw the code again. Bought a second 2/2 sensor, put that in, again, within 100 miles, I get P0156 & P0158 codes. I am going to change Bank 2 Sensor 1 tomorrow, and since I am under there and have a spare anyway, will do bank 1 sensor 2. I will drive it to work all week and report back if that fixes it, I also plan on cleaning the throttle body and MAF (and probably the K&N drop in too) while I am at it.

Like I said, I will report back if that cures it, so we have a solid reference on the forum for future searches, mine didn't turn up much.

Any pointers while I am doing all this wrenching?

    Thanks in advance!

    Jim

Maybe your K&N filter is causing the problems? Try running a paper filter.

Ok, the #1 sensor was a b1tch, but it is replaced. So, both bank 2 sensors are new, cleane the MAF, the throttle body (it was BLACK, I used the forum method of spraying the cleaner on a rag and wiping), new PCV just because, wiper blades (THAT should fix the cel!!), a full tank of fresh gas, reset the codes, now to drive it to work all week. That’ll be 250 miles, if it is going to go off again it should this week.

Did you change your blinker fluid?

Good on ya for the PCV Valve change out. How’d it look? Gunky?

Mine was when I did my valve gasket changes.

That K&N filter still on? Never had one, but heard bad things in long term.

Been using K&N 's since the mid 70's with zero issues. My current K&N has been in my Tundra for almost 4 years now. MAF clean as a whistle. Lot's of bad info out there concerning K&N's.

Over oiling can potentially cause MAF issues but following directions and carefully applying a thin layer of oil there will be nothing to be concerned about. O2 sensors don't last forever and will fail eventually. If one of mine ever fails I'll replace all of them at the same.

I’ve had 2 go bad on the 02’. Drove a year without replacing them as my mechanic said its not a big deal and the only drawback is losing 1-2mpg.

I didn’t realize the cat converters could be effected negatively (possibly).

Anyways, you right about replacing them all simultaneously.

I’ve been using K&N’s since my 5.0 in 95, I’ve never had a problem with them. Cars, trucks and bikes, FI and carb’d. Having driven a little yesterday, it does feel like cleaning the TB may have helped, but it could be wishful thinking too. Going to put a few miles on it today, fingers crossed.

All right, I have 120 miles on the new O2 sensor, previously the CEL would come on in 50-60 miles, so far so good.

For future reference, at 130k miles my 2005 4.7 CEL came on, error code was P0158 (bank 2 sensor 2), I replaced the sensor and cleared the code, 50 miles later it came back on. Replaced the sensor again, cleared the code, came on again. Replaced the bank 2 sensor 1 O2 sensor, 120 miles later, still good.

I will update if there are any changes, but as of right now, my fingers are crossed!

    Jim,
What's the update on your O2 sensor replacement fix? Has the CEL returned? Mine came on a few days ago. Cleared the code, it came back 2 days later.

Watching this thread. I recently got P0136, Bank 1, Sensor 2 msg. I cleared the code and waiting to see if it returns. I haven't driven much since clearing.

After driving for about an hour CEL back on. That didn't take long...

Can anyone confirm which side Bank 1 is? I see diagrams online but nothing is quite matching up to my 2002 Tundras exhaust system. My understanding is sensor 2 is the down stream O2 sensor on either side. Want to confirm Bank 1 is the passenger side. TIA
