Anyone experienced this. I had this with both my 07 and 011 Tundras. Toyota does not put a warning sensor on the spare and dealers don't check the spare when servicing the vehicle. With both trucks I have been caught with a flat tire and then found the spare to be flat

I guess that means , it is the owners responsibility to make sure it's not flat. Hmmm , that reminds me....

I better check mine. The Tacoma I had had sensors in all five. I just assumed the tundra did too.

I've had the TPMS light come on and the dealer determined it was my spare on my 2013. That led to me dropping the tires on all 3 trucks and airing them up.

I don't think there's a sensor in the spare on the Tundra. There certainly isn't in mine since it's not stock. Gotta love having onboard air for filling flats.

Just had the opportunity to use my 07 spare don’t think it’s ever been looked at before the tire was dry rotted but had air and held it but the rim was so rusted the lugs wouldn’t stay tight
Scored new spare from Craigslist off a 2016 never used $30

I had a flat on a rental Chevy Impala a few years ago and the spare wasn't totally flat but definitely needed air. On my truck I check the spare and the other 4 every time I change the oil. Twice a year I pull the spare, wash it, 303 the whole tire, fluid film the chain and winch and put it back up. A little preventative maintenance goes a long way.

My Tacoma had a sensor on the spare which was nice.

I dropped the spare (18" Michelin ltx ms2) on my tundra a few days after I got it. I flipped it over so the valve stem faced down for easy access to check it and fill it. I filled it to 45psi and it's still holding air last time I checked. I check when I change oil and or rotate tires.

I didn't realize the gen 3 Tundras did not have a sensor in the spare. My 2006 Tundra had sensors in all five and when the low pressure light came on, it was usually the spare that had bled down to set it off.

Same here. Every year in Oct or Nov I would get the sensor alert, from the cold weather. I. Surprised our trucks don't have a sensor in the spare

That's strange our trucks were different. Definitely makes sense to have it that way though.

Another surprise I discovered is the low threshold for the low pressure light to come on. I was just starting to work one morning and I saw the light on and worried I had a tire going flat. It turned out that the left front was at 28psi (placard says 30psi). Once I drove a bit to warm the tire up, the light went out. No puncture or other issues at all.

I would prefer a 5psi threshold so that if the light goes on, there definitely is an issue. I now check my pressures more often (typically I have found with Michelin tires that they very slowly lose pressure over time, better than other tires I've owned).

Get a tire repair kit. I could do a tire repair on the side of the road in under 20 minutes.

Just had new tires installed. Asked them to do the spare tire change with the better of the removed (older) tires and they couldn’t find the key to drop the spare down. They did the last change 5 years ago, so now they need to buy a new key! $50 is the cost online.

Btw, thankfully never had to change a spare on the 02’ in 17 years. Good to practice as others mentioned. Also, as others mentioned its good to grease the drop cable mechanism.

Winters coming so be prepared for dropping tire pressures.

I normally flip mine over too so the valve stem is accessible. 3rd Toyota and all had stems up. Seems stupid to me.
