7x14 Haulmark cargo trailer for my cross country move.

 

Not sure if this is the place or it has been answered. I am picking up my truck in a couple of weeks. I plan on driving the truck (2019 Tundra TRD PRO) back to TX and towing my city car (BMW550). Im told that I need to break in my Truck first before I tow. Any response on this? I will be driving aprox 1500 miles.

 

per Toyota's break in guidance, you aren't supposed to tow for the first 500 miles. So take 5 x 100 mile drives before you move.

 

I guess, i better find some long back roads to drive through. maybe do an outer belt a few times around too. LOL

 

I towed this Dakota today was about 6500 pounds adding the Dakota and Trailer weights together. My Tundra did way better than I thought it would and the Brake controller that came with my truck is not horrible and it did well just needs more gain then I am used too putting. I would say its on par or better than my Ram ITBC I had before this truck but not as good as the Prodigy I had installed in a Company truck I used to drive before I left that job a couple years ago.

EDIT: Dakota had an engine knock problem it runs enough to get it on a trailer but not to drive it anywhere. Friend is probably going the engine swap route it sounded really bad.

Does anyone have opinions about the weight ratings of the 2014 4x4 5.7l Tundra Limited? My manual says GCWR 16,000 and Trailer Weight Max 9,900. My experience indicates that these may be conservative numbers. Anyone know how Toyota, or any car company, determines these numbers? I will post of picture of what I tow, a 25' Bigfoot trailer, along with our "stuff" in and on the truck after I see if anyone responds. We are full time RVers and have been towing this rig and truck load for three years now. We use an Equal-I-Zer 1,2000lb WD/AS hitch with a 14,000lb hitch ball. We had the front lifted 2" with coil spacers and the rear lifted 1" with a block. Also had Hellwig rear leaf spring enhancers installed.

We've taken it from Arizona to Alaska in year one (2016), Arizona to Newfoundland in year two (2017) and spent this summer in New Mexico and the Colorado Rockies (2018) pulling over 12,000' passes. The Tundra has performed excellently, both on-road and off. It has 92,000 miles on it, and I take excellent care of it. Had all the fluids (trans, transfer case, both diffs) changed at 50,000 and intend to do so at 100,000. Change the oil every 7,000 miles. Run 10-ply/E-Load 18" Michelin tires, rear - 80lbs, front - 65lbs. Also had the dealer clean the injectors at 46,000 and 92,000. The brakes wore down at 72,000.

Any recommendations from Toyota mechanics as to what services I should consider in the near future? I've owned Toyotas before and know about the timing belt. Does this engine also require that it be changed. I saw on this forum something about doing the timing belt and water pump. I'll do the plugs around 125,000 according to Toyota and my excellent mechanic, who used to be a Toyota service manager. Thanks for any and all help.

 

Thanks! I really appreciate this. This will help on my initial drive from Toledo to Columbus so I can properly break it in. This is all new to me, as I've nevered owned a truck before. One of the links suggest I change the gear oil after 500 miles, have you done this or anyone else?

BTW, anyone know where to order a magnetic plug to catch these metal particles? I plan on changing the oil as well for the first 500 miles.
