$80K Landcruiser VS $40K Tundra Crewmax; Worth the price difference?

My wife had a chance to ride in her coworker’s Landcruiser the other day and really liked the SUV. She wants me to consider trading the tundra .
The boat to be pulled by the vehicle is about 7000lbs, which the tundra handles flawlessly.
Here’s what I looked up on both:
Tundra Crewmax 4x4

Engine – 5.7L double overhead cam; 3.81hp @ 5600 rpm
Torque – 401 ft-lbs @ 3600 rpm
Wheel base – 12 ft, 1.7 in.

We test drove the Landcruiser, and other than a little cushier ride, honestly, I can’t justify getting rid of my paid for Tundra for the LC.
What are your thoughts?

Paid off Tundra vs monthly LC payments.

 

Man, I was afraid you’d say that. I’m just trying to justify not having another car payment and pay off my IS350 and may be getting her a 4Runner Limited later.

 

For that towing duty, I would say the tundra is going to do the better job. Plus to be SUV's always seem to have a bunch of squat when towing loads.

Plus side door the LC is I haven't heard of those getting the dreaded cam tower leak.

 

I think I'd trade in the wife before my Tundra

 

They are pricey.

Out of my price range, but they are very nice. If I had the coin I would drive one, haha.

Land cruisers are nice and cushy. But outside needs to be black or it will be soccer mom time.

 

I put about 10K into my $40,000 Tundra including a canopy on the back or a camper shell whatever you want to call it I can always hog tie the kids and throw them in the back then I don't have listen to them argue the entire time.

LC has all the off-road goodies the tundra doesn’t, no debt is always better. If you put king shocks or other good brands on it it will ride better. Cheaper to mod the tundra, plus having a bed is much more practical than the small room in the back of the LC even after folding the seats. You can fit a family in there but no cargo

 

I looked at used LCs before I bought my Crewmax. They come with a ton of neat off road features that I will never use, and I think some models have a front and side camera standard in addition to the rear.

The grade of leather on the seats of the LC seems to be identical to Platinum/1794 Tundras.

 

Since my main issue is better ride comfort in the Tundra, would these do the trick?

I agree. I wouldn't. Because of depreciation. And because you love your Tundra. Right? PLUS the Tundra gives you a bit extra towing capacity (in case she wants to upgrade whatever you're towing) and-- I'll admit I don't really understand gearing, but I think this is right-- the Tundra is geared lower, so better for towing. Also...

A Land Cruiser costs TWICE as much. Buy a vacation cabin. Or a boat. Or go to Europe for 3 months.... Lotta options keeping the Tundra!

Edit: I just read others' suggestions. Whoever suggested upgrading the shocks, yes! Plus a rear sway bar.

 

@DallasTundra, yes most definitely, I have mine set to level the truck and the ride is amazing. Even my wife who is always irritated with my truck says it rides comfortable

 

Icon coilovers up front icon shocks in the rear with a 1 inch add a leaf and Tundra rides like a dream

Man, I'm glad I can make my wife happy without spending $80k+ on an SUV!

 

Trucks have beds, all you gotta do is use it correctly! Happy wife happy life!!!

 

Get a camper shell and some faux leather seat covers, hopefully she will think you upgraded

 

unless you need the 3 rows of seats or the size of the LC it's not worth the price difference for many. The LC build quality and parts are supposed to be a notch above the Tundra. LC have a cult following and should last a really long time. I think I read the next gen LC won't have a NA V8 anymore. There have been many LC vs Tundra discussions on the interwebz....check out IH8mud

Nope. Not with towing 7,000 lbs. you’re going to be miserable. Imo 7,000 is already a lot for the tundra.


How far are you towing the boat?

 

I tow 10000 of boat all day long never had a problem

 

I own and drive 14 LC and a 16 Tundra pro. The LC is my daily driver. Every time I drive the Tundra I am disappointed in comparison. The interior, ride, sound, quietness, lights, breaking, air, you name it, of the Cruiser is unmatched. Blows away the Range Rover I driver prior. Don’t get me wrong I like my Tundra, I just have a list of why didn’t Toyota do this to the Tundra. $40k that’s why.
