I am thinking about replacing my factory stereo with a new head no extra speakers or subs. Nothing fancy maybe a pioneer or something affordable, any recommendations? I do not have nav and I use apple products.

get a non nav kenwood or alpine HU with car play support and a harness to hook up that HU to your stock Toyota speakers system.
add a Maestro data link so you can display all the engine information/tpms/ steering wheel controls to the new HU.
Crutchfield sells everything and can pre wire for you as well.

Do you know of any shops that install Crutchfield? I am finding the stock stereo lacking also...

I went with a non nav kenwood and a pair of Focal 6x9 co-ax speakers... I'm very happy with it.

OP, I was gonna ask the exact same. Been looking at Phoenix but I’m an Apple user and rather have CarPlay. Maybe do amp and speakers later.

    Which Pioneer would you suggest?

I do not, I am going to google search for that If I decide to pull the trigger. Crutchfield is a bit too happy for their pockets and my wallet
