Is it worth the level?

just curious on people’s opinions. Is the risk of messing up the tss sensors worth leveling the new tundras? Having a hard time justifying messing up something on a new truck just because I like the way a leveled tundra looks. Thoughts??

 

That's something each one of us have to decide for ourselves. It is all a matter of priorities. I am on the fence about it also; I like the leveled look but I don't want to run into issues with warranty coverage either. I am keeping an eye on what others are experiencing.

 

^^^That being said, I think the story that leveling will mess with the sensors is BS. If that's the case, it means that we are never allowed to load anything in the back, because it would have the same effect as leveling when the rear squats down by 2 inches. In fact, when loaded, you would need the TSS more than ever because of the extra weight and momentum.
If it is designed to work with a loaded truck, there is no reason why it would not work fine with a leveled truck.

 

Worth it. Nobody is ever going to say “those are some really functional sensors” but people will say “that truck looks badass”

Agreed. I have basically made up my mind to level it. My concern is that I have 20" wheels with 55 sidewalls. It looks really bad on a lifted truck, so I am planning on waiting until the tires need to be replaced, then go with a 60 or 65 sidewall along with the leveling.

 

Been on the fence as well with my 2018. I think having the KO2s with the TSS rims really seem to add a little more aggressive look and compromise compared to my limited OEM wheels. They are considered stock here in Texas so no sensor issues so far. I placed 3 calls to my dealer to speak with a service rep regarding a lift. They never called me back. Very disappointed in them but probably the sensor issue is why.

 

I leveled my Tacoma with 5100s. Didn't have sensors or any of that crap, while it did look good, it drove and rode like crap and I regretted it. My tundra will remain stock height for ride quality purpose alone.

 

Just have dealer install the lift. Then you will not have to worry about voiding warranties or dealing with the TSS issues. That’s my plan anyway. I know that I am going to get screwed at the dealer but it is worth it to me knowing that everything will be done right and under warranty.

 

My dealer did not want to do it because of the TSS concern. I wasn't in the mood to argue with them to try and convince them to do it. I figured I will try again when I am ready to do it. Maybe they have more confidence at that time.

I have a 2018 Tundra and had the bilsteins 5100s installed in middle setting to level it and have zero issues with TSS. Drives amazing and ride height is exactly what I was looking for. Hope this helps

Hey Blake check out a guy on this site @ARES he has this issue covered with a relocation bracket for the TSS

 

For me, absolutely. My 2008 looked sooo wimpy when I bought it...completely stock with 255/70/18 on steel wheels. Granted, I went a little more aggressive with a set of AT's, but still didn't like the raked look.

 

Looking to get the 5100’s.. opinions on stance, wheel/tire fit, or pics would be awesome from anyone willing to share.

 

I’ve been told by two of my local “off-road “ mechanic shops that 5100s are overkill. And simple spacer lift will save money and ride quality will be relatively the same. I made the comment I do not plan to off-road but do deal with some muddy roads and boat ramps during hunting seasons where a little extra ground clearance and more aggressive tire will help. Opinions on this?

 

I think most here on this forum will not agree with that, but for me that's what I plan on doing. There is nothing wrong with my OEM shocks so I don't see the need to replace them. After all, I paid extra for the special "Sport tuned" shocks. I don't do serious off-road driving either. I go to construction sites where there might be loose dirt and I need 4WD, but no serious humps and dumps where I will bottom out and damage the OEM shocks. So, for me the spacer will work for the little extra ground clearance and mostly just looks.

 

I have a local dealer that has a ton of Tundras on the lot with 3" lifts. I believe it's just a matter of bringing it in afterward and getting it recalibrated. Not sure if they will charge you to do it or not but I too plan to level mine once I get the funds together to do that at the same time as purchasing new wheels and tires.

 

Do you have any pictures? Did you change the rear ones?

 

Previous owner put solid spacers / lifts or whatever the f you wanna call them on my truck. I have a friend of mine with the same package / year truck with all original setup and mine looks a lot better. That being said, his ride is waaaaaayyy smoother. I'd go with the bilstein setup if I could. It is not that there is anything wrong with the oem setup, its just that the solid piece between the mount and the shock makes me feel every bump on the road.

 

I’ve had a 3/1 on my 18 for a year and a half with zero issues....and it looks badass IMHO!

 

Same here 5100 middle setting no problems drives and rides fine

 

This is what I'm going to do also. Did you do anything else or the rear shocks?
