I have a 08 Tundra with only 36000 miles purchased 6 months ago . Recently driving with windows up I noticed a exhaust leak type flutter sound up front when on the gas. When idling can't really here it. I hope it is not anything major. Annoying as hell. I have to get it checked out soon. Unfortunately not under warranty. On top of that that my transmission on 2 occasions has missed when on the gas hard. I am starting to believe I may have made a mistake. The Carfax was clean when purchased but I know that does not always tell the whole story. Anyone else ever have this issue with such a low mile truck. Did 08's have issues with cracked manifolds. I don't know but I am really pissed the hell off for i paid a decent amount for this truck to deal with this B.S.

Never heard of any issues to what you're describing.

I had the same issue with what I thought was an exhaust leak a few months ago. Had the Master Tech at my dealership take a ride with me, he said most of the 2nd gens sound like that once they get over 50-60k miles? Hell if I know.

If he is a master tech then I am the President. Mine has only 36700 miles on it. I am no master tech but I sure know it did not sound like this when I purchased it. And it sure does not sound normal to me. But thanks for the info though.

Post up some video of the sound. If you open the hood and just hit the gas in park does it make the noise you describe? Could it be a bearing going out on a pulley? Not ruling out a gasket failure or crack on the exhaust manifold thought, just a thought.

Might want to just to the tranny flush and fill to ensure its at the right level. Shouldn't be having issues that soon.

Called local shop today. If indeed cracked manifold (which they say is common) they can weld it. 4-5 hours labor. Looking at around $500 bucks. Or you're talking $500 for new manifold and $500 for labor. Think I may go the weld route. To be continued.......

Hey Jersey Tundra, I did some reading on this common problem and I would look at your steering seal. It may be a cracked seal. They say it will have or cause that ticking sound. $20 fix. And as a welder for 25+ years, 4-5 hrs seem a little much to me. Depending on prep time and length of crack, 2 hrs at the most. My opinion that is. Hope this helps

Thanks rons23. I will look into it. The labor is removing the manifold, welding and putting back together. That is if it is the problem. Definitely sounds like a exhaust leak to me. Thank you for the info.

Oh by the way, how are them leds you installed in the lower panels. I got the same ones and had them color matched, but haven't installed yet as I'm gonna do a retrofit and do it all at once.

Doing good. Knock on wood..... I had a toggle installed so I can shut them off when I want. You should do the same. Might save some life. I have a new set of Nfab stainless chrome nerf bars waiting to go on. After I figure out what is going on I will install.

Turns out it was a piece that comes off the manifold that was pressed on in two spots from factory broke off all the way. The shop is going to weld it back together. Looking at around 5 bills for the work I hope . Waiting for the call. He said he would take a picture of it. Will post a pic of the failed part when I get it. I did not know the truck already came with like a factory type header on it...... That is good.
