Any way to upgrade just the JBL subs?

Everything else is great. I feel the OEM JBL subs aren't the highest quality.

Did you want to upgrade just the sub or both the sub and enclosure? If just the sub I recommend to change the amp also. When I changed out my entire jbl system the it looked like the sub was really shallow. You might need to take it out and get measurements.

The factory sub is ridiculously cheap plastic and is nothing but a joke. As I slowly built my system piece by piece, I put the JL audio stealth box in for my sub. It was the first thing I did and I hooked it up to the factory system so I still had bass, and it made a huge improvement none the less. The factory sub is 2ohms. Just make sure you match that if you don't end up having a dedicated sub amp (highly recommended!!!) My sub amp is 1000watts, where the factory sub output is around 100watts for a reference.

Before I changed out my whole system, I added an amp and sub enclosure. When you have a separate subwoofer in a stock system, the easiest way is to use one of these.
    http://davidnavone.com/product/ne-7v-2-channel-line-drive-adapter/
    [IMG]
It wires to your subwoofer speaker wire and gives you rca inputs to add an amp. Worked fine for me in my last car and I used it for a while in the Tundra. Just adding better bass made the stock system MUCH better in my 2nd Gen, however it still wasn't enough, which is why I started from scratch and replaced everything.

Here is just a rough install I did to see if the line drive adapter I mentioned would work. You can see it at the end of the purple RCA's. It worked, so I had another box built for my subs so that the seat could stay in.

The simplest easiest, most cost effective addition is to add a Kicker CompRT 43CWRT81 subwoofer. $149 from Crutchfield, 1 hr install if you can handle simple mechanics. Uses factory wires, nothing else to add, plug and play ( after you you[IMG] use 1.5" self tapping screws-kicker/8 hoLes stock 6/holes). The factory amp will rock your mirror when heavy bass songs played.

whole different sound after install. factory amp is plenty to power. no extra wiring, disassembly or headaches. best 150$ spent.

You get the 1 ohm or 2 ohm?
Howd you wire it up as far as connecting the speaker wires to each voice coil?
    Thanks

sure, run a jumper wire from + to - on the kicker
then connect the green tundra wire to + and black to -. screw into the factory box and go listen:).

This looks very interesting. Question for you Carman...I haven't pulled the factory sub out yet but do you need to tap into the harness to do the final connection to speaker after I follow your instructions to drop the speaker to 1 ohm? Thanks for your help

Once you prep the Kicker by running jumper from left pos to right neg, then cut the factory green and black wires and run the green to the remaining pos and the black to the remaining neg connection. turn on the stereo to see that it works then use eight 1.5"(i think) screws to secure the sub to the enclosure. if there is a gap, use either small foam strip around edge to seal it off or black elec tap works too. there is no grill that works well so make sure nothing under back seat that can slide back and hit sub. crank up and enjoy mirror vibrating sound from the premium factory 440 watt amp and new kicker sub.

I got the kicker dual 1 ohm sub and wired it in place of the factory JBL sub, no extra amp. Its marginally better, not worth the money without adding an amp. I figured that would be the case going into it though. Maybe some day I'll install an amp.

Did your 2015 come with the premium JBL
system? Mine stated it has a 440 watt amp.if yours doesnt, that may explain the difference. also make sure the jumper crosses sides(left to right) and not just on one side.

Yeah it is the platinum with the premium JBL it may have changed in 2017 but I'm not sure. It's pretty pitiful. I'll double check my wiring when I get a chance one day but I think that's the way i did it
