Just realized that my fog lights are no longer working after installing the 2018 headlights. I also have the NSV bar. I didn't have DRL's on my SR5 to begin with. They worked after installing the NSV bar, but lost them on the headlight upgrade.

Anyone else come across this and/or have a suggestion on how to fix it? I'm assuming it's a wiring issue in the harness somewhere. I've checked the fog fuse under the hood and replaced just for a sanity check.

So here's an update on this. I've put everything back to stock, but the only way the fog lights come on is when the turn signal is on and then the fogs blink w/the turn signal. Does anyone have the factory wiring order for 3 wires?

In order to use NSV bar with 2018 LEDs you have to follow the instructions for a Platinum/1794, don’t have to use the t-harness they include with the NSV bar.

That t-harness (and probably you have the all the time fogs mod) is causing back feeding to the fogs wiring

That's not even hooked up anymore to the harness. The headlights and tail lights are on OEM harnesses and halogen bulbs. I even disconnected the resistors to both. I'm also running the stock headlights now as well.

It's just the pinning on the OEM turn signal harness that had to be changed and I'm trying to put it back to stock pinning but I don't remember what it was.

I don't have the all-the-time fog mod either. That'll get you a ticket in this state. I've never even touched the fogs.

So this combo is the only time the fogs come on and they blink with the turn signal. This is the driver's side. Pink is on the bottom, purple in the middle.

The weird thing is I don't get even get a dash light for the fogs either when I turn them on, but I get a continuity tone at the fuse when they're on. Is there another fuse for them somewhere besides under the hood?

    Stock pining for turn signals

Is red/pink, white in the center and violet in the outer side

Not at home to get you a better picture but the empty spot shown in the picture is for the violet wire

I bet it's something to do with the NSV. I don't have one but they seem to be finicky and cause issues with any lighting upgrades, even just changing blinker bulbs

NSV isn't hooked up at this point. Just tested the relay. Didn't hear a click when turning on the fog lights from the stick, so pulled it and tested it. It was running ~170 ohms but it was clicking when power was put to it. I don't have a light tester to do the rest of the test tho.

Still no go on the fogs working. Here's the current wiring.

Hmmm yeah I have no idea. Has to be a relay issue or something

I should clarify the NSV bar statement. It has power and is hooked up to its own panel, but isn't hooked into the OEM harness under the hood. The only place where it might have an issue is in the harness in the dash. So it looks like that's my next stop. Ugh. What a nightmare.

Thanks, I've changed them up. Can you confirm the connections for me?

@csuviper you have any thoughts on this by chance? I've read a number of posts about this issue and so far haven't seen a solution (other than the hacky one that someone did with a bent relay tab, which isn't an option). What's really perplexing is that I can wire the turn signal so it triggers the fog lights to blink when the signal is turned on. I'm not sure why that's the only way power is getting to the fogs.

What kind of bulbs are you using in the fogs housings?

Ok this clears the polarity thing, the only thing a can suggest at this point is if everything is stock, all fuses and relays OK, then the last option is to inspect the fogs switch all wiring to the stalk

Yeah, that's where I'm headed tomorrow. The NSV dash harness adapter is the only thing I can think of that's in-between the stalk and the fogs at this point.

It's weird. I don't get a dash light either, even when the fogs light up with the blinker. I'm not sure how that circuit is wired though.

I did a couple more tests this morning. I took the fogs out and tested them both directly from the battery to the connectors on the fog light housings and they both lit up. So it's not the fogs. I also tested the new Morimoto fogs the same way just to be sure they work before I install them. So the fogs can be ruled out.

I also went back and did a voltage test on the fog light fuse as well. With the truck started, the headlights on and the fog light switch on I was getting no voltage. So I took the fuse out and tested continuity once again just to be sure, and it toned so the fuse is good. I also tested the connector at the end of the fog lights and was getting about 17 mV (millivolt) on each connector. I would think that would be zero, but maybe there's some residual voltage that is always sent down the harnesses by the ECU for testing?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the fuse isn't getting power then it has to be somewhere between the stalk and fuse box yes? Where does the ECU sit in this circuit?

Okay, I think I may have found out what's wrong. Before tearing apart the dash I decided to see if I could find the specifics for the relay to officially rule it out.

This is from the 2015 Tundra manual. I don't have the 2017 but I'm assuming it's the same.

    Clipboard01.png

When measured, I'm getting 168.4 ohms, which is 0.1684 kΩ. That's far short of the 10 kΩ. Assuming I'm measuring this correctly, at this point I'm pretty sure it's the relay.

    20180901_090726(0)[1].jpg

That being said, the saga continues. The part # of the relay says 90080-87026.

    20180901_091958[1].jpg

However, when I look that part number up over at ToCS it says that it's for a 2017/18 Tacoma and doesn't have the Tundra listed at all.
    https://parts.toyotaofcoolsprings.com/oem-parts/toyota-relay-9008087026

When I go to the related parts link for the fog lights it shows a different relay that doesn't have the same pin pattern. So I'm pretty sure that one is wrong too.
    https://parts.toyotaofcoolsprings.c...al-cat/fog-lamps-scat/?part_number=8121002160
    https://parts.toyotaofcoolsprings.com/oem-parts/toyota-relay-box-relay-9008087024/

    :annoyed:

@Roman can you help me out here?

If it is indeed the relay (crossing my fingers and praying to God at this point) I have to wonder what caused it to go bad in the first place (besides the fact that it could've been the incorrect one)? First things first though, I need to make sure I'm ordering the correct one before moving on.

    :fingerscrossed::pray:

    See fine print
Put a jumper wire between 3 and 5 on the socket. If the fogs turn on with headlights on the relay is def the problem.

Well bummer, AZ doesn't have it in stock. So as soon as I hear back from Roman about that part I'll get it ordered and installed. With that additional verification step by @BlueBottle though, I think I can safely put everything back together now w/o fear of needing to take it apart again. Since I was going to upgrade the fogs to the Morimoto's and have some of the bumper off I figured I might as well take the rest of the thing off and platidip the chrome bumpers matte black while I'm at it. Aaaaand since I'm doing that I might as well match the rear bumper too lol. Gonna be a long day (and maybe tomorrow). Thankfully my OSU Cowboys already played Thursday!

Oh holy balls. After soldering the resistors back on to the tail lights and doing a lighting test, I found that the brake lights were working but the tail lights wouldn't turn on. Thankfully it was just a blown "Tail" fuse in the box under the dash this time.

Let my absent-mindedness be a lesson kids - NEVER disconn... no wait... ALWAYS disconnect the battery when monkeying around with electrical crap!

Lol about half of the time I forgot to disconnect it. "Brave" is a very generous word.

Haha I'm with ya man. I did a step by step here when I did my 18 headlights, I think my step 5 was disconnect battery.

I do home electrical with breakers on top. more fun that way lol.
But I should try harder with the truck, I blew 4 fuses installing LED dome bulbs

Haha, I blew the same fuse twice when doing my interior lights. We definitely need to get into the habit of disconnecting that damn battery! This relay was a slap in the face to do that for sure. I was extremely diligent about it after testing things as I put it all back together. Even put some temporary tape on my soldering points just to keep them from accidentally touching.
