Tundra hitch receiver height vs Tacoma receiver height

Greetings to all. So, I had a 2017 Tacoma TRD Offroad (which I loved deeply) and purchased an RV with a stated dry weight of 3400lbs. After full water tanks, propane, battery, gear, family body weight, hitch weight, etc, I knew the Tacoma would handle it fine. It towed pretty well, even up HWY 285 from Denver to Kenosha Pass, but although the trailer brakes were cranked up a bit, it was not fun at all coming back down. Out of curiosity, I took the TT to get weighed and the reality was that the actual true dry weight was 3950. That's a big difference for the Tacoma. The TT's marketing material had a misprint (confirmed with the manufacturer). But we love the trailer and decided to upgrade to a 2018 Tundra TRD Offroad. (Got almost full value back for the Taco). Although I loved my Tacoma and miss her, I'm warming up really quickly to the Tundra. So, long story short, does anyone know the actual height difference between the Tacoma TRD Offroad hitch receiver hitch, and the Tundra TRD Offroad hitch receiver? I completely forgot to measure it before I let her go to compare. Before I go to get the TT out of storage (after the 500 mile break-in period for the Tundra), I wanted to know if I will likely need to adjust the hitch (Fastway E2) to a different height first. Thanks for your help.

 

WELCOME! Very nice truck!! I don’t know the height difference but I had to adjust my hitch when I traded my Tacoma with my tundra when I had the same TT.

 

Thank you much SR5TRDTUNDRA! That is exactly what I needed to know and will save me a couple trips. Now I'll have to figure out if I have two wrenches big enough and two arms strong enough to crank those bolts on the hitch, or if I'll have to take it in somewhere first.

 

No problem! I had my local RV dealer adjust it for me, and they charged me a box of donuts and coffee lol

if that picture is your actual vehicle then you have the Tundra TRD Sport not TRD Offroad. To my knowledge it should not affect hitch height but just incase.

 

Same here. From 16 Taco to 17 Tundra, had to adjust the WDH down to accommodate for the taller tundra. The camper was nose high otherwise.

The tundra is a great truck... I miss the size of my taco, but don’t miss the high floor seating position or how high the engine had to rev to make power. The tundra takes care of all of that but is otherwise just a big, lumbering truck.

JGood, you are correct. It is the Sport. I am still stuck in "Off Road" mode from the Taco. Mikey, the size of the Taco was perfect in every way and was the vehicle I have been dreaming of for at least 10 years, but when it came to pulling a full TT down hill with my family, it was really nerve wracking. I think me and the Tundra will get along just fine though.

 

FYI, it turns out that I did not need to change the hitch height. Not sure how, but it was pretty much perfect as it was. I messed up though and completely forgot the 500 mile break-in rule before towing. I hitched it up to take it the RV to the dealer for a quick repair and got about 2 miles down the road before I remembered. I turned around immediately and unhitched it. Took it really easy and slow though, so I am praying that I didn't mess anything up.

 

He was saying he a TACOMA offroad and got a new tundra. There is definitely a difference in hitch height

 

You're fine, pretend it didn't happen and enjoy the hell outta yoir new truck. Oh and tow that trailer when you reach 500 miles, you're gonna love it

 

I had a 2014 Tacoma TRD Sport and ended up moving my Fastway E2 hitch up 1 notch when I moved to the Tundra.

 

After I hooked up the trailer, I checked it with the bubble level and it was near perfect. I thought for sure it would need adjustment. After I unhitched it, I took the Tundra to the RV dealer and had them measure it up against the same model of TT I have and they agreed that no adjustment was needed. Just lucky I guess.

 

Rear seat bar is worth it at around $200, it'll tow even better. And obvi a weight distribution hitch would be even better, you won't even know its back there with those 2 parts

Pudge, I have a Fastway E2 WDH, but I had not set the bars up yet in this photo. For that couple miles I did tow before I realized my error, you are right, I didn't even feel it back there. Looking forward to towing it up the mountains in a couple of weeks if I can get enough miles on the truck by then!
