Hi everybody, my brand rig started giving the pre collision sensor malfunction warning. So I took it to the dealership. Long story short. They told me the lift on the truck was causing the error. I called the regional office, they got the service manager at the dealership to call me and he told me that according to Toyota engineers that they can’t fix this because any sensor that they replace cannot be calibrated to my truck because it is lifted and the sensor won’t work.

Can anybody confirm if this is accurate? I see a lot of people in here who have dealt with this issue and they’ve had their issue corrected. But I’ve never read anything about having issues recalibrating the replaces sensor. Can anybody give me some insight on this?

    Thanks

We have found that you can not level out the Tundras, you can lift them, but you need to keep the "rake" on the Tundra to insure the sensors read the road properly..

    Thank you for responding.

Just a question, how are is everybody else getting their issue fixed? I see a lot of people staring that they had their ECU sensor replaced and it fixed the problem. Does that sensor not have to be recalibrated?

I personally have heard people getting them re-calibrated from dealerships, but I am not 100% on the ECU sensor being replaced...

99% of people just run with rake on their trucks and they are fine.

thanks again...any chance you know how much rake to run with? And don’t worry, i know not all trucks and lifts are the same...I’m just hunting for information. I won’t hold you to any number you give me.

    Thanks again

Not sure how much lift you have on your truck, but the kits we offer are 3'' in the front and 1'' in the back (to lift and level) for the newer trucks with the TSSP we suggest at least 1.5'' to 2'' of rear end lift so that will equal out to around .5-1+'' of rake.

You could always re-locate the sensor. There's a guy on here building brackets. Or make your own. The whole lift affecting the sensor thing is a grey area. Some new Tundras have had your issue in bone stock form. I have a 3/1.5 lift on my truck with no issues (knock on wood). Many others have lifts or leveled with no issue. I think many people who are having a similar issue are saying u still need a small forward rake, like an inch or something.

What do you think about Toyota not fixing the sensor issue on any Trucks that are not Stock height? They won’t fix it even if the tire is slightly larger than stock. As a vendor of aftermarket parts I wouldn’t think you’d like this too much. I would totally understand and be responsible if my modification caused the problem but it hasn’t. I was under the belief that it had to be proven that aftermarket parts caused the problem. What route would you suggest us owners, who can’t get the recall done take? Thanks.
