Hmmm. Wonder if the truck needs to be in neutral. Or switch clocked to remove. How do you know it needs replacement.

Oh and welcome to the forum!

I have it in neutral, followed the instructions from Chilton and Haynes manual. Its sliding out about an inch then stopping at the edge of the threads.
    Thanks for the warm welcome!

Finally was able to remove Neutral Safety Switch. The threads on the nut to transmission clamp down around selector that sticks out of transmission. You have to pry the slots of the switch to open them up enough to slide over the threads. Fixed my issue, P0705, money light(check engine). Drove it 2 days, no issues, works great.

Yes definitely thanks for the update. Curious for some pics and a little more detail on what happened. As it’s possible this could happen to my 15.

I would recommend spraying it with PB Blaster over couple days before attempting to remove it. Also I found some helpful info too, while the Neutral Safety Switch is off, be careful and not shift the gear shift inside, it will cause some sping inside the transmission pan to come off gear selector, then you have a big mess. It was a TSB issued after several made the mistake.

what year was your truck? I just bought a new switch to put on my 2008. It was slipping out of gear and hard to put in park and drive. happy to find out it was just this switch and not a transmission issue. Im worried about stripping the nut on the end of the shaft as it is very rusted. (thanks canada)

Had check engine light….diagnosed to an electrical issue inside the switch. Dealer broke the shaft removing it. Told me it could happen and if it did then I might need a new transmission. They are trying to “make it work” but I don’t like it
