Bike Mount for Bed Rails

I made a couple of bike mounts that attach onto the bed rails. I really liked the way they came out and wanted to share them with you all. Let me know what you think and if you have any questions. I would say that each one came out to about 28 bucks. I bought all the parts inside OSH (except for bike mounts), but you can probably get them at any local hardware store.

My first issue was drilling big ol' holes for the huge 5/8" bolt to fit through. I used a stepper bit. Then I bolted together the two halves using the pre-drilled holes and tested them out on the bed rail. I did have to remove a screw to slide the square nut back, but its not a huge issue. Then I drilled the holes in the bracket to mount the bike mount. Once assembled, I sprayed the bracket with some bed liner spray paint I had already.

My goal was to create mounts that will be able to sit under my tonneau cover. I also wanted to just flip the cover back and mount the bikes sideways so I didnt have to remove the cover everytime.

I've been searching for DIY bed rail mounts for my road bike. Might have to try this out. FWIW, the sunlite mounts were cheaper on ebay

 

Sweet set up. I like that the bikes sit sideways taking up minimal bed space.

 

That is slick. How has it held up for you? I am looking at a tundra and researching bike options (I have a mtn, road, and trail bike that I ride). This seems like what I was hoping to find for a tonneau solution

 

Another option for those just looking for a quick bed mount is to just use some T-Nuts. I assume this would also fit under a tonneau cover? My bike is too long to fit sideways...ha

I am doing different method. My bike's front wheel is not quick release and need a hex key to remove it from fox 36 fork. For that reason, I am a big fan of tire hold. I assembled 1x4 woods to make a DIY tire hold rack. Put this on front side of bed vertically. And mount rear tire in this DIY wood rack, only by this rack, my bike can stands. For the rear side of the bed, since I have a bed extender, I use it as a mounting point. I extend the extender then I use a velcro strap to attach the front tire with extender. Bike is secured by both tires. Nothing else touches any part of the truck.

 

These are a bit more $, however the peace of mind is worth it if you have expensive bikes
