Rear sway bar...worth it?

Nope, not standard at least

 

Any issues getting those forward hitch bolts out? Tundra Dude over on you tube seemed to have a problem... I plan to use the Tekton torque wrench to remove them... bad idea?

 

Idk what his issues were but I had none. I used an air gun to remove. Was much faster plus I live in a salt/rust state so I know they'll be tough to remove. I could have used a ratchet but it would have taken longer. I installed new ones with torque wrench. Installation is pretty straight forward and simple.

 

None whatsover - I've had my truck almost 2 years. I couldn't get any impact guns in there, if you have a 12" extension it may work, so I had to use the torque wrench as well. ~80 ft lbs is nothing on one of the big 1/2" drive torque wrenches.

 

Thanks! No air gun here.. but no salt either. Only a year old so I’m not expecting too many problems... we’ll see on Thursday though

 

You'll be fine

 

You should never use a torque wrench to remove a bolt. Use a breaker bar or ratchet your torque wrench will stay more accurate.

 

That’s what I figured. I’ll have to locate a better option....

 

The TRD bar will fit, just needs rotated. If you remove the block with a new leaf pack, the extended links will need to be made.

 

A ratched or wrench ot breaker bar will be just fine for removing the bolt. Dont need anything too special

 

All you have to do is take one of the bolts out of the link bar to the swaybar and zip tie the bar to the frame.

 

You could have mounted your SB on top of the axel.

 

I'd want some kind of protection on the end link bushings and end of sway bar where they bolt on though.

 

You can eather swing the link bar up near the frame and zip tie it or just remove the link.

 

With a 4" block i would mount the SB on top or middle of axel at least. If mounted on top you may just have to do a little reroute of break lines.

 

I wouldn't shift the mounting location as long as the end links are close to vertical. I could see doing it if they weren't but I wouldn't change mounting location especially if that would throw them further out of vertical

The hitch bolts came out just fine. I used a breaker bar, but really didn’t have to apply a ton of pressure... I mean it was on there, but I didn’t have to gather all my strength to break it off lol

First. It’s not far enough in on the drivers side... it didn’t fit easily and I didn’t want to force it... looking at their pics (in color here ) it’s clearly under that triangle shaped bracket.

Also, on the u bolt configuration, they weren’t clear about the use of washers. They referred to a diagram, but in the black and white print out I couldn’t see what the hell they were talking about! The color one wasn’t much better, I guess just a washer under the nut that holds it all together... the other “bolting” instructions were better: “#1 washer, endlink, rsb, nut”

Before tightening it all in... snapped a quick pic cause it was about dark. The ubolt on the left isn’t nearly as crooked.


Doesn’t quite want to clear the bracket on the drivers side.


Passengers side looked ok I think... just missing washers:

 

Can you just loosen the bolt that holds the bracket on the driver side slightly and rocket to the right so you have clearance?

 

I'd just loosen those nuts on the u bolts and tap it to the right. It should go under that bracket pretty easily with a few taps.
Looks good. Can't wait to hear some feed back. I'm really liking mine. Really helped the body roll alot which allows me to take corners a bit more aggressively now and I feel safe

 

Front one makes a huge difference also

Longer version:

Took it for a 30 min drive around some 180 25mph on/off ramps I’ve got near me. I usually take them at 30-35 mph and feel like I’m going to roll the truck. Tonight it felt solid and planted. The front end felt like it was trying to get away from me a little, but I suppose that’s what the FSB is for . I’m excited for the wife to feel the cornering in this thing now!! She usually grabs the cup to make sure they don’t go flying out of the center console... like the cup wells aren’t deep enough.. I usually come into the neighborhood at 25mph... I usually get the “geeze babe!” But I think there will be a lot less of that now... or at least I’ll be going faster to get it LOL

Figure I’ll check the torque settings in 100mi, after the next several full ups (250-350 mi) then again at each oil change for a while. That’s probably over kill. But better safe than sorry IMO

Tow haul on, yes, trace off, no... I’ve been up since 4am... seemed like a bad decision lol

 

Lol, I hear ya. I'm about to take a shower and rack out. Feel like I've been thru a taffy puller the last few hours after getting some more upgrades done. Found out I'm not nearly as bendy as I used to be.

Answering the post Title:

It depends on how you use/drive the truck.
If a TRD Sport would make sense for you (mostly road driving, maybe a little aggressively) but you dont have a TRD Sport, get a sway bar. SO MUCH BETTER HANDLING!
I obviously just installed it, so i'm not sure how it effects towing.
If you're planning on rock crawling or mudding where you require the articulation of your rear shocks, Dont get a RSB... or get one that can easily be pulled off (I hear there are options out there, TRD RSB isnt one).

I'm defiantly more of the "TRD Sport" driver. If it goes off road, its flat dirt roads or the beach.

 

Has anyone painted their sway bar? If so what steps did you take? TIA!

 

So I got my sway bar installed. I have 4 of the 6 bolts torqued to specs! The U bolts are scaring me, I don’t want to keep tightening and brake them! I keep inching along but my torque wrench won’t click like the other 4. Anyone else have this issue? What should I do?

 

Man I did, it clicks on the end links and sway bar part. I even got the 1/2 inch with adapter and got a click with that one on the other 4 also. I am just scared to strip the u bolt. I feel like I’m torquing the hell out of them.
