    Hi all
I am getting only 10.8 MPG average on my 2016 tundra DC 5.7L. Combined 50/50 local and freeway and I drive very gentle.

Truck is stock. No lift and factory wheels/tires
Truck only has approximately 1500 miles.

Should I take it to the dealership to have it check out or wait until first oil change? That will be awhile until first oil change. I work from home so I don't drive much.

    Thanks.

I would reset the mpg and give it another try. That's really low.

Do you let it idle alot?

It will get better as it "breaks in" also.

I reset a few times, no help.

No, I normally start driving within seconds after I started the engine.

I think it will improve a bit as you put on more miles.

    Oh one or two.
Have you calculated the milage yourself?

Wow, I got 10.3 mpg the last time I pulled my camper.

There are several threads on here about what you can do to improve mpg.

Tire pressure, fuel octane rating, alignment, is where I would start. Running 30 front/33 rear tire pressure as the factory recommends will straight up kill your fuel economy.

I don't trust digital read out, I always calculate my mpg when I fill up. I drive a stock 14 with 90% city driving with a light foot and am getting 15.2 to 15.8 mph. That's me dividing miles driven by gallons put in the tank.

I drive my 5.7 with the "Mileage Nanny" bar graph showing on my display at all times. I always try to keep the bar above the middle mark which is 15 MPG. My truck is all stock except for a Flowmaster dual in/dual out muffler, however I was getting very similar numbers before I had the muffler installed. The last two fill-ups I've gotten 16.6 and 16.3 MPG with most of my driving on surface streets and an occasional jaunt on the freeway.

The best mileage I see on the graph is between 45-55 mph, which conveniently is the average speed on our surface streets here.

There are times when I flip back to the MPG setting and I'm averaging over 18 MPG! It's tough to drive like an old lady over an entire tank of gas, but it shows you that it is possible.

I'm actually pretty happy with the mileage. My Tacoma 4.0L got 18 MPG no matter how I drove it; freeway, surface streets.....didn't matter.

{EDIT} My SC is 2WD, so that makes a wee difference also.

My 11.1 is hand averaged over the last 400+ miles. Mostly city. I'll be going on VACA soon. Mostly hiway. Should get 14 to 16 if lucky. (Not even remotely stock)

I don't care about gas milage, if I did I wouldn't drive a truck or put heavy mud tires on it or an after market rear bumper that weighs over 100 lbs more than the stock bumper. But that's just me...

Make sure the units selected are in MPG and not the crazy metric units (Liters per kilometer, or some crap like that).

If they are in MPG then I'd take it back to the dealer. My 2011 is in the shop right now and I have a 2016 Tundra rental and I'm averaging 18mpg and getting 20mpg easy on the highway.

How many does it take to break in? My rental only has 9,700 miles on it.

My 15 crewmax has 6,000 miles and only getting 11.5 mpgs. I don't think it's going to get any better. Tundras arnt know for their fuel economy, sucks but I knew that going in so I can't complain much.

Dealer won't have a clue. May want to check tire air pressures and hand calculate your mileage. The computer is sometimes close and sometimes not.

It's discouraging getting worse fuel economy than what's advertised. In my last car I was getting 14 city/hwy when I lived in San Diego, I moved to Oregon and it improved to 18mpg, so it could be how crowded your city driving is with the more stop and go. Probably a long shot but maybe run a fuel treatment and engine treatment, something could be clogged. I've seen brand new vehicles be delivered with problems and had to order parts as soon as delivered.

When I bought my Tun it came with 74 miles and was, at that time, running around 9 mpg. You got to admit when people take it for a test drive they stomp on the gas on fwy on ramps....I did when I drove it. Now as I continued to drive, yes the mpg really didnt change much. However over the course of several thousand miles it has. Mine just surpassed 11k, and what I have figured out is that once you reset the mpg it takes about 2k-3k miles to really find your average.

You need to look at the amount of running time, and the activities, its been since resetting. If you reset it in a parking lot, then hit the fwy on ramp, then hit the streets and drag race all in a matter of minutes, your mpg will be low single digits. But if you wait, the average will show its true number. Just be patient my friend.

My current MPG 14.4. Normal work week is 75% street, 25% fwy. No stop n' go traffic I might add.

My 16 Tundra 4X4 crew has about 1500 miles on it so far. In three fill-ups, the calculated MPG has been between 15 and 17.

I think mixed mpg average is pretty much meaningless since there are too many variables especially if you do a lot of city driving. For instance, I live in a small city whose average block is only a few hundred feet. Added to that, there are either stop sign or a signal light every or every other block. I get city mpg that's substantially lower than 10 mpg. But that number is more of a indication of the driving condition than the truck.

Perhaps a better item to compare is the highway mileage since it has fewer variables. What sort of highway mpg do you get?

I think you hit the spot. There are a lot of traffic lights in the area where I live.
However, I am hoping to get at least the advertised MPG after it broken in. after 5k miles?

I'm just curious as to what car/truck of any make ever gets advertized MPGs??? Especially any 4X4 truck. Examples please?? Factual empirical data , not anecdotal opinions. (No junk science, just sayin....) By the way, FACT's always trump "truth". Ask any judge...........

Note....pre "common core" math......Big truck with 5.7L that hasn't been improved since 2007 with not so great MPGs will still have in 2016..........let me guess.............not so great MPGs!! Discouraging??? Sheesh

Definitely going to try to get a few more scratches on my truck this weekend. MPG's is the last thing I'm worried about. It's possible to spend a grand or more to gain pretty much nothing as far as better MPGs. It's all relative to driving habits and where you take your truck and your capabilities/experience. There is no real "factual" solution other than buying a Prius.

I usually get better mpg than displayed on the dealer sticker so not as advertised. This is usually with me driving to get decent mpg. I took the Tundra (stock) on a road trip from OR down to SoCal and I was getting 17's cruising at 70-75 on the I-5. The best I've been able to get is 20.0 round trip, thats also with trying to get the best mpg's possible on the highway.
