Need help cleaning engine block. RAT NEST!

Hello! I recently got my truck from my grandmother who lives out in the country. The truck has had rats making nests in the engine and bringing in all sorts of old bedding chunks and whatnot. It was all cleaned out when I got the truck, but I found some pink fuzzy material and rat droppings hidden underneath the center of the engine. After further investigation I found what looked to be like a dead rat.

I first noticed this when I found a few ants in my truck and around the hood area. Is there a way I can get in there or take parts off to get to that area to blow it all out? I’m worried about a fire starting. Plus a dead rat in the engine isn’t cool. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Either spray all that shit out with a pressure washer or

 

Put a stick in there and get the big stuff out, then blow the rest out. Start up the engine and use a soft RV brush with a bucket of water with some degreaser to clean the entire engine. Sparkles!

Maybe at minimum wear a dust mask. Can rats carry Hantavirus?

 

I would start with a shopvac with one of those thin extension wands. You might be able to suck out the majority. If you start with a hose, it will just blow stuff everywhere. After I sucked out what I could., then I would use a garden hose before using a pressure washer.

 

That would suck. I don’t think I could keep a vehicle that was taken over by rodents. Disgusting little bastards.
I always see rabbits hanging around the parking lot at work. Wish I could pick them off before I park.

Might want to check your attic for rats too. That pink stuff looks like blown in insulation (from an attic). Too hot to harbor in the attic in summer so they find cooler places.

 

Start with the shopvac as others said. Long needle nose pliers to grab that dead sucker. Then wash the shit out of it.

Do not use a shop vac as it will then be contaminated with the funk. Use a stick, then hose it down, then wash engine.

 

don't use a shop vac for mouse/rat droppings etc. sure fire way to get hunta. The exhaust from the shop vac will blow that around. Seriously, don't mess around with that. Use water, LOT's of it.

 

I’m considering a rat cam mod for such an event. Any reccos on a heat resitant camera. How should it be wired? Thanks in advance!

I would use a flexible cable pick-up tool with the 4 claw end to grab the dead rat first then wash all the shit out of there. DONT use a shop vac like others mentioned!

Always cover your mouth and nose when dealing with rodent droppings and bedding. Hantavirus is a killer.

 

I would release some stray cats into the engine bay (and home for that matter) and let them hang out there for a while until you make sure the rats are all gone...haha

 

That's funny you say that because my grandpa in Utah would get a cat, starve it for a week, then put it up in the attic. My mom said they'd hear the cat killing the rodents during the night. Ah, the good ol days!
