I’m hoping moving the header out flush with the bricks works for you.

Feel your pain. We had a house we really liked and wanted to purchase, but the garage was not going to work. We finally had our Realtor call ahead and ensure a home we would look at was a minimum of 23’ deep and 24’ width without the third bay.

Maybe a last resort but it would work as long as you have the door width. Take down the garage door and install a barn style door. If you want it to open on a remote system that can be added. The hindges would mount on the outside of the door frame. Either style in the pics would work.

My shed has that style door, except the roll is inside. Works well.

I vote shorter rear bumper or roll pan- do they even make these anymore haha
    Or
The outside hanging slide barn doors would be your cheapest shop mod imo. These would work great and sliding door hardware isn’t too expensive. Can just build wooden doors and paint to suit.

The 2007-2013 trucks had some sort of sport package option that gave you a flusher mounted rear bumper. It was painted the same color as the rest of the truck, along with every single piece of trim that was normally chrome. Personally I didn't like the look, it was very easy to damage as well.

How about making a pocket where the bumper would go in the wall? You would need a beam to support the 2x4s already in the wall. Would need to check with a carpenter if it would work. In my mind it does. That would give you a couple of inches.

I have been looking at this pic closer and I think I see the impression on the floor where the door actually hits. It looks like it clears. If you move the truck out of the way and close the door and take a pencil and mark where the door hits the concrete, then back the truck back in and take a plumb bob and check for clearance. You can make a plumb bob using a piece of string and anything with weight and a point.

Use this to see exactly where the front of the truck meets the door (not the track that we've been looking at to judge). Also, check that there is no hinge or door handle on the garage door that can scrape the truck bumper/license plate.

This is a plumb bob, btw: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Johnson-8-oz-Steel-Plumb-Bob-08/100184170?cm_mmc=Shopping|G|Base|D25T|25-1_HAND+TOOLS|NA|PLA|71700000034127224|58700003933021546|92700031755124826&gclid=CjwKCAjwspHaBRBFEiwA0eM3kfRZ4bu_yso0LrAw3FdThS7gQcBXRRJMfQ3u0D-qhqF1xvNqN9HYZBoCdzwQAvD_BwE&dclid=CPGj06_nlNwCFZnG4wcdthoKsw

I had a similar issue - I removed the reinforcement struts. You could potentially remove the lower reinforcement struts on the door which gives you another inch or two. Do you need them? Take a look here: http://www.environmentaldoor.com/blog/do-i-need-reinforcement-struts-on-my-garage-door/. This cleared up almost 2 inches on my door. By the looks of things it could be the same on yours. With a lightweight door I'm pretty confident you don't need them on all panels.

I agree on the sheetrock though. I'd pull the sheetrock, you could even use a router or chisel out out another inch+ from the studs, should have a negligible impact on the structure. You could easily gain 1.5 inches that way. If you are worried about fire protection, the sheetrock gives you somewhere around 1hr protection, you could close up the hole using tin, cover with flex-seal which is fire retardant and paint...

Two simple fixes that would give you at least 3".

I removed the middle garage door reinforcement strut. The one on the bottom looks permanent or fixed. The top one I don't need to remove as my truck doesn't sit that high.

I think you are there if you cut out the sheetrock. If you need to replace it, one of the easiest jobs in the world to patch sheetrock. Use a utility knife and cut the sheetrock out in a box where the bumper and hitch need to go into the wall, keep the box you cut out - if you need to patch it just put it in, tape it and float it. Anyone can repair garage sheetrock to an acceptable point.

With it cutout, see if you have room, if so make it look as nice as you need it to. The only benefit to sheetrock is fire and aesthetics. Both easily dealt with.

I have done a quick sketch of what I would do if this was my dilemma. Just add about 2 foot extension to the front of the garage. It can have a little sloped roof and the columns that get added can become a nice looking architectural feature. You should be able to do it within HOA guidelines. It might cost a little bit but in the long run will be worth it.
Keeping the existing door opening header beam (lintel) if it is too much of a structural issue for the rest of the wall above it, you can get a roll-up door that fits in the cove between the existing wall and the new wall.

    upload_2018-7-10_15-32-27.jpgupload_2018-7-10_15-39-56.jpg

The roof can be something like this:

Make sure and get a qualified person for the seal coat on the garage floor. Lots of cheap products out there that won’t last but a few years. Also make sure who ever does the floor etches the concrete so the new product bonds to the concrete. If you go with an epoxy floor the flakes are supposed to cover the floor till refusal (another words 100%). Also make sure that if any of the floor coating or sealer is exposed to UV light it’s not going to fade or yellow. Just a few tips from experience. Garage looks great!

This is the way I was thinking for the best fix for long term. Extend out the front side of the garage and do a small shed roof for an accent feature and retain a good function.

This thread is now morphing into: What could possibly go wrong status?

OP may end up having to put in a new wall anyways after one wrong move with the gear/accelerator.

Hey honey, we’re now remodeling the kitchen ‘cause I juiced the gas!

I’m tagging along to see how this ends up. It might give me the motivation I need to tear out the storage room wall that keeps me from fitting my truck in my garage.
