Valve Cover Bolting

anyone have specs for torque for v6 4liter cover bolts?

 

No sir. They do need snugging every couple years due to contraction and expansion. I snug mine by feel a little at a time alternating to each bolt in a random zig zag pattern to keep the compression equal.

 

According to Haynes, they’re 80 in-lbs. around 6-7 ft-lb.

 

Thx for quick response. I was guessing at least 55 in-lbs. I'll set them at 80 and keep an eye on them over time.

 

Could that be why my valve cover gasket is leaking? Or just a bad seal?

 

Tighten those bolts up carefully and we shall find out. Probably the gasket is old, but I’ve tightened mine about 3 times in 6 years. First time was because I noticed the leak. Second and third time was prevent maintenance. Believe its 16 bolts 10mm. A couple of bolts it is better to have a longer extension for the socket reach. Or, a short throw 10mm wrench. Just alternate the bolts a little at a time. Some may be looser than others. Let us know how it goes!
