man does the factory controller suck! ive read a few threads about it not working well but thought maybe they were just exaggerating. hooked up to about 6k for the first time today and set the gain to about 7. upped it all the way to 10 and still doesnt feel like its helping at all.
so what is everybody using? want something that looks factory and does what it supposed to do. heaviest i tow is 6k so i dont need anything too fancy just something that will work with electric brakes. thanks

I put a Reese Pod on mine.
It's not fancy but it worked when I was hauling an enclosed around east Texas post Harvey helping folks out with trees, tarps, and the like.

my dealership says they have a software upgrade for the stock controller that improves it a lot. Has anyone had that installed. I would rather not have to buy an aftermarket one unless I have to. If you have tried the upgraded software, does it help and if so, how much. 2016, 5.7, 4x4 Limited. The trailer I plan on buying will be a small one and will not accede 75% of the recommended pulling weight. I do plan on a rear sway bar and a WDH

A little of this and a little of that.

I've had the factory brake controller update done on my truck (16 CM 5.7) and it works flawlessly!

Is there a TSB for the update? Also does it apply to the '17s?

I run @ 9.5 pulling ~3k lbs w/factory controller. Might have to look into this update.

Yes there is an Update. Just had mine done while there for another TSB related issue.
The TSB for the IBC is BR1612=.3

Have not had the chance to use it with a trailer yet so I have no input on the effectiveness of the Update.

I have an '18 with the factory TBC. Having issues with it saying 'trailer disconnected' and no brakes. Anyways, per my dealer, only the '14, '16, & '18 came with a brake controller. Does your '17 have a factory TBC? And does it operate the brakes correctly?

Think your dealer is wrong. They didn't start putting the IBC in until the 16' model year and continued in the 17' and now the 18'. I had the update done last week or so and have not pulled the camper since then. Sorry I can't be more help.

I went thru the same. Even after the factory software update the controller was not adequate for pulling a 6K trailer. I put in a Tekonsha P3 which is brilliant and a 10 min. job.
