    Not tow hitch or spare. They are tight. I'll have to check the bed liner, but this feels like a heavy thump so I can't imagine that's the case. Possible I guess. I'll let you know. If it is the source it will be just the excuse I need to take it out and linex the bed.

    Are you sure the spare is tight? Get under there and use your feet to push on it. Also, open the tailgate and pull/push on the bedliner from the bottom. Do you have a bed cover?

    Does it always happen? Does it get harder when you take off faster or stop harder?

    Jace, you'll probably know this answer from personal experience with your 1st gen. Sometimes when I'm going downhill or uphill and I let off the gas my transmission will downshift automatically to bring the rpms higher. It helps brake the tundra on downhill and accelerate uphill but when it flattens out the rpms won't return to normal for a while or until I press the overdrive on and off. Is this normal for these trucks? I'm hoping it's not signs of my trans going out or slipping.

    Yup normal, mine does it too. Its just the logic in the ecu for trans shifting.

    I think it has alot to do with towing. When I have the trailer behind it and I'm coming down from the mtn, it helps alot on the brakes when it down shifts like that.

    My 2009 tundra has a feeling of slack and a bump when I don't baby the throttle in the rear end/ driveline. I feel like it is similar to what Patrone77 was describing a few posts back. I bought my truck used with 70k a few months ago I guess the previous owner didn't take advantage of any service available to him. If this Is the driveline what do I need to do to make it right? It also has a bump when I brake hard.

    I'd definitely start with lubricating the drive shaft, but I believe there was a tsb for a new driveshaft....

    For early 2nd gen there is I believe. I've been having the same thing with my 10, but I'm thinking about taking care of it myself in a different route.

    Neither of your trucks have block lifts in the rear right? It can cause axle wrap and make some funny feelings when loading and unloading the driveline.

    So its not that.... might seem weird, but you could put the truck 4wd. Then remove the rear driveshaft. Drive Around A Bit IN Front Wheel Drive carefully. See if the feeling goes away.... if it does, u may be looking at a slip yoke issue. If it were mine, I'd look into taking that slip yoke apart and lubricating the shot out of it upon reinstalling.

    I wouldnt worry too much of its not rubbing anymore. Doesn't look like anything is gonna break. Just get it back to somewhat normal and call it good. Then buy a real skid plate; )

    Hey all,
    I am doing a timing belt change on my new to me 2000 4.7. I am using the kit with the water pump and lots of other bits. I did the crankshaft seal no problem. I can't find anything that says how to do the camshaft seals and I don't want to mess up the timing by trying to loosen the bolts and freeing everything up.

    What is behind the cam pulley bolts and what do I need to know and do to change the seals?

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but a TSB is not guaranteeing a replacement right. It's not a recall from what i've read. I took my 08 in for the same issues everyone is dealing with- clunk at take off or coming to a stop. I brought my truck in and had the tech ride with me and he sad it was normal, so I went on my way. I did read where supposedly the slip yoke is the culprit. What would be the time and cost to fix this if Toyota doesn't want to replace this at no cost. I don't feel I should have to pay anything, especially when this Tundra has been babied for most of it's life. Thanks for your time Lotsoftoys.

    You are correct it's not a recall. a tsb is a known problem that toyota has come out with a fix for. Its typically covered under the 3months /36k miles. But if you are out of that warranty then you would be liable for the cost

    From what I read, it's a improper casting of the yolk. It needs to be something that the tech can verify, you typically can't go in and say that it's happening, and expect it to be sorted. The fix is a new drive shaft, cost varies depending upon the specific shaft for your truck.

    @LOTSOFTOYS, wouldn't this TSB be covered by the drive train portion, 6/60K?

    And that's what I did, had him ride with me, I'm not a mechanic, but it sure as hell didn't sound right. If it was looked at at the time I brought it in it would've been under warranty, as of now it looks like I'm sol. Just wanted to know if there was a fix without replacing shaft. Thanks

    Well, after asking around and researching online, I figure maybe it's best just to ask an actual Toyota mechanic. I have a 2011 Crewmax and want to out a roof basket on. After talking with an INNO dealer, I was under the impression that in order to out a roof basket on, I needed to also purchase a roof rack to attach it to because my roof is a "naked roof". Can't I just attach it directly in mounting points in the gutter? I really don't want to add another $300 and 4" of height just to put a basket on. I am attaching (or trying to attach) photos of my roof gutte. Was the INNO dealer right in saying that I have a "naked roof"?

    You technically could attach it to the gutter but those aren't really mounting points and not sturdy enough for any serious roof rack or weight.
