Hi all. 1st time tundra owner. I've been trying to buy one for the past 2 years. Well I finally got one and it won't start. It's a 2014 5.7 Tundra. It cranks and cranks but won't turn over. It was purchased from an auction. It probably started over there because it was listed as starts and not "wont start" or "run and drive" When it came in I tried to start it but all I got was clicking from the engine, dead battery probably, the key wouldn't come out either. Next I hooked up a jumper and that's when it started doing the cranking only.

I have a spare battery that I'm going to try tomorrow. It has collision damage but this is the main issue right now

If it doesn’t say “vehicle won’t start” then it’s probably something simple for sitting in the lot for long.

It's the standard key fob and remote you get with the platinum tundra.

Also depends on where was it hit. Mine had the same issue turned out the engine bay fuse box was bad. Got it for $200 from junkyard and it worked.

It also has suspension damage. The steering wheel is straight but the left wheel was still turned slightly to the left and the right wheel was straight

I'm probably looking at around 18 with repairs. They were selling 22+ at dealer auctions, plus I wanted a platinum that was lifted. This one has a fabtech lift. Platinum ones are going 25+ clean titles.

I had this happen to me before. Used a key that had worked in the past, but had sat on the key holder inside for like 1.5 years. Was going to let a friend borrow the truck and it did exactly that. Turned out the key had somehow lost its pairing to the ignition. IDK how that happens, but the toyota dealer towed it in, reprogrammed and was on the road. I had the platinum warranty so it payed for the tow. I would have really been pissed if i needed to because all i needed to do is use my other key to start and it woulda worked.

i agree with adam, i think key is suspect.
I have had this problem 3 times in my 2015, and its always self corrected. i have chalked it up to my directed remote start / xpresskit. but it makes sense that its most likely a problem in the fob / immobilizer.

I'll look into that. First I'm going to have it scanned to see if there's any trouble code that might be causing the issue.

ah ok, i understand i missed that above. i would have a second key made up, prob wont be more than $100 at dealer.
i dont think its "a fuse"... what "fuse" would cause intermittent starting?? fuse is either blown or its not.

The dealer should be able to make you a chipped key with your Vin number.

    Anything related to fuel.

Also, if it has an inertia switch, check that depending on how bad the accident was.

I have a 2nd gen but there is a red security light that flashes until a working transponder key is inserted into the ignition switch. Light goes off if key is good. I'm sure there is something similar on 3rd gen trucks.
