DIY Supercharger install 2016 5.7 ffv

One thing that i just thought of is maybe it could be having a conflict with the Phoenix HU, i did pick up a tri plug for the OBD, will just try the bully solo tomorrow.

 

Are you running performance throttle and performance shifting?

 

No, but at first i did.

 

Just have it on stock SC build now. No throttle,shift, econ, ect.

 

How did u connect bullydog and Android HU to OBD togather?

I dont think there is any way to mirror the BD to a HU, i let the young feller at BD know my about my mirror wants.

So are you going to setup an A, B, and C presets with different setting? I just have A set now with stock shift and performance throttle. Also, Magnuson emailed me yesterday or the day before there is an updated calibration for our FFV.

 

Yep everything seems to be working fine so far. Just the issue with performance test with BD.

Ok sounds good, I will be giving BD a call in the morning to check on it. Think it was yesterday I was asking about the performance test and told him the build # and he said I was up to date.

 

It sounds like it just came out. Mine was installed and loaded in Feb. What is your build? I’ll compare to mine.

Why i got a 3 to 1 , #1 for HU, #2 for BD and #3 I was going to get a obd scan tool for displaying gauges (not knowing BD did have guages)on the Phoenix HU. I still might have to get a scan tool, BD has fallen asleep with keeping up with ways to display there software.

 

One other thing i will be adding to the supercharger and truck was red line water wetter but ended up having to settle for Royal Purple Ice.

Is this different than methinol injection?

 

It will lower the boiling point of your antifreeze making it more effective taking heat away. I used to use it in all my 2 stroke race bikes, it helped keep the preignition in check.

 

Please post your IAT temps vs ambiant before and after water wetter.

 

Ok, will try to make time for it.

 

I went in and picked up some Red Line, I needed 17oz total , 14 for the engine and almost 3 for the after cooler. I didn't have time for a temp test at Hwy speeds. When i got home i let it idle for 10 minutes, during that time i got everything ready for adding. Pulled the truck in took out coolant added the Red Line and let it run for 10 minutes.

I'm happy with the results, it's about $20 for two bottles of red line.

 

Interesting results. Looks like if you do a throttle body coolant bypass completely you would get even lower IAT. Wonder what your temps on the HE are before and after or what they would be using 100% distilled water and water wetter in the HE. Guess it is too late to measure with infared thermometer.

 

Very true on distilled H2O/water wetter, only thing with that i would forget that i live in Minnesota lol. I'm curious if the throttle body doesn't have a Temp. sensor for cold start up (choke) and or the heat is to prevent induction system icing. As i remember when reassembling the throttle body, the casting didn't look like the fluid would encircle the entire body. Maybe a Toyota tec could shed some information on the purpose of heat to the body.

 

Coolant in throttle body would do absolutely nothing to prevent ice on cold start up... the coolant itself is cold. Heat could be for preventing induction system icing but you have moved from a plastic intake manifold to an aluminum supercharger plenum so radiant heat should prevent icing.
I beleive the coolant heat helps reduce carbon buildup on the butterfly and the air is moving is moving so fast at speed that the air does not have a chance to heat up. Therefore no benefit in bypass but detriment in carbon buildup.
Others believe there is an increase in reponse and power. From your test results there was a significant decrease in IAT, personally i believe that is because you were idling for 10 mins, other believe there is a true reduction of intake air temps with a bypass

 

On older EFI body's the coolent passed through a sensor, when the coolent was cold it would increase the fuel supply to the engine, as the temperature rose the additional fuel would stop.
As for intake icing in an automobile i dont think it's to common, but very common in airplanes.

 

I'm sure that a change 4:88 gears would help out quite a bit, can feel that it lugging a little to much with the 35s , i have to agree with keith that the lower gears would be beneficial for mpg. Now planning for 4:88s and LSD, financially starting to think i have two wife's now!

 

Just a little information to pass on, after visiting Magnuson's website to d/l and fill out the limited powertrain warranty, through a few e-mails i was informed that the supercharger top plates are not interchangeable from a TRD to a Sparks due to a casing redesign. As far as Sparks to Magnuson's I'm unsure but belive they would interchange

 

Early trd had a smaller cover so this could true.
Later models may fit however,unless magnuson went out of their way to make sure that trd could not be supported down the road.which knowing magnuson would not surprise me.

 

I am on stock size tires, more then enough torque to melt my tires at anything under 40mph so the cost of gears front and rear buys alot of premium to offset any mpg increase i might get. Agree get the auburn lsd though, definitely need it unless you plan to go full locker.
