I have a 2017 Tundra CrewMax and I am thinking about building a sub box to install behind the back seat. I am trying to determine what my maximum mounting depth should be for the subwoofer drivers themselves....in a box that will be a good tight fit behind the seat....using 3/4” MDF.

Does anybody have a recommendation for a safe mounting depth for the drivers themeslves? There are so many subwoofers out there with so many different mounting depths...I just want to make sure they will fit depth wise in a typical size box.

Thanks in advance for your help....

    Nobody? Wow...tough crowd.

Alright, I found the 10” shallow mount sub I want to use where mounting depth won’t be an issue. Can anybody tell me what dimensions I should use so that the box is wedged between the wall and the seat back nice and snug? I realy just need the bottom depth, top depth, and the angle of the face. I can determine the width of the box based on the sub requirements for internal air volume. I plan on installing this box directly behind the center portion of the seat (behind the fold down arm rest). 2017 Crewmax

I cant answer your question, but if you look up the JL stealth box, I'm sure dimensions will be posted. Then you can cut the length in half for 1 sub. It's what I would do if I were building my own box.

Do these dimensions make for a good snug fit behind your seat?

I tried to take a pic for you, but it’s hard to get my phone back there. This is the best I could do.

You can see the box is flush against the back of the seat. The plastic you see is the trim on the seat covering the hinge

Wow...yeah, that looks snug alright...thanks for the pic!
Just to clarify, the dimensions you posted are the outside dimensions of the box with 3/4” mdf?

Honestly, I’m 42 and I have two girls who routinely ride in the back seat. I just want something that sounds good without being “over the top”. My days of cranking up Kid Rock to 11 are over...

That was honestly the exact same route I had planned to go too for nearly the exact same reasons (age and 2 young boys) But then after realizing the space behind the seat is not accessible anyway I started having second thoughts, then I learned about having a bass remote knob that can control the bass and I am so glad I went with 2. It fills the music better and on those classic songs that I used to jam to in my teens/20's I can bump as loud as I can stand and turn it down whenever I pull up to a stop light or have the fam with me. I installed my knob just below the notch in the center console for a cord to sit in when the console is closed right where my hand hangs when driving and is so easy to control without even thinking about it. Just something to consider so you don't do a lot a work and then later wish you had added the second one. This isn't my truck but the picture of the bass knob is exactly where I put mine:

Just when I had myself convinced one 10” sub would be sufficient....you come along with all your logic and stuff...lol.

You’re right....I should get 2. When my wife gets super pissed I’ll give her your contact info...lol.

What are the specs on the box you are using?

I have a ported box but am getting a sealed box on Friday. I'll take measurements of both once I install the sealed box likely Sunday night at the earliest since I have to go out of town this weekend.

Can anyone help me find a box that will fit snug with an 08 crewmax?? I can’t seem to find any boxes with a big enough mounting depth (trying to fit SA 10”s ) the mounting depth on them is 6” I’m pretty sure

Can't speak about 2nd gen's specifically, but these Tundras just do not have much space behind those back seats. And the mounting depth possible depends greatly on how large of a diameter the sub magnet is. But, on the 3rd gens, the max top mount depth that is possible for 10's is 4.5" and that requires a box that is has relief cuts in the back for the magnets. Haven't seen many people chime in here on 2nd gen Crewmax box size possibilities. But, your best bet is to contact James @ tech12volts and talk to him about it. He fabricates sub boxes for a HUGE number of people on this forum. He built mine, and I cannot speak highly enough about him and it. My box is ported and exploits the very limited space that we have behind those seats. He will know exactly what can be made to fit your truck and he is excellent at communication with his customers.

I went with the 1 10inch sub and it’s enough for me. Won’t rattle the fillings out of your teeth but it definitely pushes sound out. The sub is a p3SD4 and the box was made by super crew sound. They stuff the box will polyfil. I was very suprised at the output.

Im not sure the depth, but I installed a jl audio micro sub 8” and a jl audio 500 mono amp. It sits behind the rear driver side. It is the cleanest sounding sub ive heard.
