OEM wires are not RCA. That is the problem. Everything I have looked at has RCA outputs so you have to have a LOC.

MGMTundra251.....Hey just wondering if you used the factory wire from the harness w/ your 100RMS output amp out to your new speakers? Thinking of running new heavier wire but not thrilled to run it into the doors. Easier to use existing wire. Also worried about room in the doors since my crossovers are really big. If I run new wire I'll leave the crossovers near my amp.

 

First question. Is the the wiring the same for a 2018 double cab non jbl? And second, I would have to repin the connectors going to the factory amp in order to go to the lcq, correct?

Yes, the 3rd Gen. 2014-2018 Tundra Audio system wiring is the same for like models.

So all JBLs are wired the same as each other and Non-JBLs are wired the same as each other.

So my 2016 non-JBL wiring is the same as your 2018 non-JBL wiring.

Looking to add an amp 4 channel and wanting to use existing speaker hook ups under passenger seat.
Would this work from 12 volts?

That doesn't look like the 2 harnesses he sent me to hook up my amp under the passenger seat.

 

The more i read this thread the dumber i felt....i had to stop. Guess when i do speaker/system upgrade in my truck I'll have to just pay someone to do it. I just don't get it

 

Some builds are more complicated than others, have you watched the ********* install videos on YouTube? They can really help explain what needs to be done. If you are super beginner there are lots of very basic videos online to show you what you need to know. If you have a JBL factory system, that does complicate things somewhat but it can be done...

 

Do you currently have a JBL system? If not, you need the non-JBL entune harness. It’s two connectors. One for speaker signals and the other for ground and power (constant and switched). Not sure if it’s on his site. You may need to send him an email or call.

 

You could totally do it. If you keep it simple, it’s not difficult. The hard part is pulling apart the interior without breaking something.

The Dude I spoke with stated it will work. The switch is included in the harness,, I just need to run from the battery.

 

I habe the factory system. I am a hands on learner.... and i don't learn well by watching videos it needs to be in person with something like this or extremely detailed instructions. And i don't do well with electrical anything....i always get shocked.... unless jumping a vehicle or changing the battery

 

For just a speaker upgrade got Crutchfield. They supply PNP harness adapters and speaker mounting adapters. Install is easy. Even a dummy could do it. They even provide decent instructions to pull sail panels and door panels. You can get a cheap door panel tool kit on Amazon or buy a little better one from Crutchfield for about $6 more. I bought the Amazon one.

 

Looks like a budget LOC to me.

I got a door panel removal kit off Amazon for around $15, its basically a bunch of pry tools made out of abs plastic that are much less likely to scratch the super soft plastic on the interior...

Ditto this. Crutchfield gives great instructions and a human will answer the phone if you call. @4x4_Angel if you can change your taillights, you can totally do this.

You can actually get by with just fingers but the pry tools come in handy at times.

 

Is Scosche a budget line of aftermarket parts?

Just remember to always disconnect your negative terminal before you start working so you don't accidentally set your air bag off or fry your amp or yourself for that matter lol

Sheesh... Go on a business trip off the grid for a few days and all of the sudden there's a ton of thread activity!

So back to the LOC question by @johnxmccoy... looking at the pictures in the link, they appear to be wiring in LOC adapters in series with the normal audio channels in their harness. The 12-pin and 10-pin amp connectors are shown, so this will tie into the two Non-JBL amp output connectors under the passenger seat. Should work great... as great as a simple LOC will work anyway. Worth a try, easy to install (though you will still have to install and separately wire your new amp), and a 90-day warranty.

Keep in mind what their description says though...

"Scosche's LOC80 line output converter allows you to connect a receiver with no preamp outputs to an amplifier without speaker-level inputs. The LOC80 handles a speaker-level signal up to 80 watts RMS per channel, and converts it to a line-level signal you can plug into your amp's input."

The option is to by an amp that will accept speaker-level inputs, then you would just need to buy the adapter cables identified earlier in this post and connect it per Post 29.
