No owners manual came with my Tundra I'm in the process of getting some manuals for this puppy. I assume it has a filter also?

It’s a pain in the ass, IMO. One of those things I go to the dealer for.

Don't trust a chiltons manual. Lot's of important steps missing.
There are two filter's available. You may need to drop the pan to see which one you have.
The pan gasket is reusable but Fel pro sells a new gasket for $20, toyota wants $49

This might be a little more than what I want to do due to not having a shop work in.
Does anyone know how much Toyota
    charges for this?

Full flush can be pricey at the dealer, like in the $4-500 range.

The standard Toyota service is a drain and fill of the pan at 60k miles intervals; usually 4-5 quarts. This can be a DIY. Many discourage the flush, possible disturbing sediment better left alone. From this forum, "You flush a toilet, not your Transmission". lol

Call around your local Toyota shops and ask them what the process is. A common backdoor they take is draining only 3-4 quarts of the 12 quarts. I had dealerships quoting me the same as a flush for that.

Also keep in mind some may not recommend a flush over 160k miles.

I had mine flushed, 12 quarts synthetic for $260. The fluid alone would have cost me that.

The old mindset of not flushing your transmission fluid is silly and misinformation. Toyota uses a machine that doesn’t flush anything, just replaces old fluid. You change every other fluid in your truck, why wouldn’t you change your transmission fluid?

I do not think there would be any issue with a drain and fill, or a pad drop /new filter and fill. I would be looking into that......

I have 131k on my 07 4x4. Just did a flush 3 months ago now I have a hard shift from 1st to 2nd. I tow nothing. Its my pavement princess and now I don't know what to do. Replace filter and the few quarts of fluid or save the money for Toyota to diagnose it. Any ideas guys? sorry to take over the thread.

You could start by checking the fluid level. Mine was somehow low after I changed the fluid for the first time, followed the factory service manual step by step and still ended up adding another quart.

Agree with fixnfly make sure level is right before you get too worried. I have a 07 with
176,000 and will do drain and filter one day.
I wonder what the dealer will charge for a drain and filter change?

I posted this to another thread in here. I’ll update it with what I find out today, but I’m increasingly worried I’ve fixed what wasn’t broke.

Take it to the dealership! It can be problematic at times. It doesn’t have a replacement filter of the sorts because it is a reusable meshed type thing. But, the seal and drain plug tends to have issues sometimes.

Got my truck back this afternoon, and so far it’s a world of difference from two days ago. The mechanic said he put an aftermarket filter on the transmission to begin with, and the new one is from Toyota. He said the difference in driving to him was night and day as well. He said he learned something today, and so did I!

Resurrection time! Any update to know which filter one might have before they drop the pan? I have a 2016 5.7L 4x4 and I'm wanting to replace the filter. Noticed two options that "fit" my Tundra.

Look up the trans threads. One has pictures where a guy took his filter out over 100k and it was clean. It’s more of a screen and doesn’t need to be replaced. You could cause more issues trying to replace it like breaking the bolts on the pan, which is common.
