Plastidip question

I'm thinking about plastidipping my wheels black but haven't decided on flat black or glossy. How long do I have to apply the glossifier? Can I wait like a week or does it need to be applied immediately after the black? Also, people are saying to stick index cards between the rims and tires for the overspray but I can't get the cards to stay. And I've heard tape doesn't stick to the tires too well neither. Any suggestions? I've seen YouTube videos of people just spraying onto the tire and peeling it off afterwards but I can't imagine that peeling off cleanly.

 

I wouldn't stress too much about the Glossifier because it really doesn't leave much of a gloss. I used to couple coats of Glossifier after I sprayed mine and it made a difference but not a big difference. I am glad I used it though. As for the overspray on the tires, it does peel off just fine. I taped a plastic drop cloth to my truck and then cut a circle out in the shape of the wheel and then taped the drop cloth to the tire. There was a decent gap between the drop cloth and the rim. As long as you have enough coats, like more than 5 total, it will peel just fine. Check dipyourcar.com for their videos, they explain it well.

 

I may do this on a friends set of wheels.

 

Post some pics of the process, or at least the finished product. I'm curious to see how it turns out. I've been thinking about doing the same.

 

Here's a picture of Boozer's. With the TRD centercaps. I was thinking about powdercoating mine and then I ran across this. I think I'm gonna try dipping first.

 

Tape your lugs, take off your center caps and spray them separate. Much less work to keep the wheels on, just move the truck forward a few feet after 3 coats to get any missed spots under.
