    I doubt you'd need a HO alternator. Get a big battery up front and keep a jumper pack in the truck when you think you are going to be using the inverter.

    Thank you, sir. You just confirmed what I've been reading. I not planning to use the inverter for long extended time nor putting full load on it but I would like to get a better alternator. I'd probably have the engine running if I have to run it for 10-15 minutes. Another option I'm looking at also is to add a deep-cycle battery to provide longer run time. This is going to be a multi phase project.
    Thanks for the link to DC Power. 270A is definitely better than 150. :)

    :rofl: Which part of this install is easy? Are you talking about just buying a generator? It's been on my list for awhile as part of an emergency preparedness. That's a topic for another thread. :D

    You could run a second battery with an switch (similar to how boats/Rv's use dual batteries).

    What are you planning on running off the inverter?

    Go Ham and put 2 northstars/odyssey's up front, with an aux in the rear and a HO alternator:benchpress:

    I figured with 2000W I could run anything from a small microwave, coffee maker or power tools. It's one of those "it's there when I need it" type of setup.

    That's a lot of batteries you are suggesting. I don't think I need to go that extreme. :D

    My biggest issue with that inverter and quite frankly a lot of them is that the output is a modified sinewave. What you want is an inverter with True RMS volts out. Much cleaner output and zero chance of fooking something up. TRMS inverters cost more for good reason...
