How do I know which TPMS sensors work with my 2018 Limited?

I looked them at Toyota of Cool Springs and they list all 2018 models for both types.

I'm getting 18" wheels and want to know which type I need. Does anyone know? I know 2018 has different models from past years (based on some searches), but no one seemed to mention 2 types for 2018.

    Type 1

I believe that the type 1 tpms sensor is for aluminum wheels and the type 2 sensor is for steel wheels.

Aluminum to aluminum the sensors will work. It’s if you go from factory steel to aluminum where you have issues.

are there any alloy rims that will fit 42607-0c101 (the tpms sensors for the steel rims). if none. which sensors should i buy that the 2018 tundra will pick up? I heard they switched they to 433 mhz sensors in the 2018 and older model tundras had 315 mhz so those dont work. is that true?

Both sensors are pre-programmed the same. Both are 315MHz. The difference between the 42607-0c101 (type 2 for steel wheels) and 42607-0c091 (type 1 for alloy wheels) is the valve angle - one has a 20deg and the other 40deg. They would both work on the same truck but they may not fit all the same wheels. (usually on a truck alloy wheel you can install the "steel wheel" sensor upside down and get away with it although not recommended since the sensor may be damaged if the tire goes flat).

42607-0c101 is for alloy wheels while the 42607-0c091 is for steel.

Fyi, I was able to get the new ones programmed fine. 2018 requires a 7 digit id, while 2017 and older models have an 8 digit code, so that is why they do not work on an 2018.

That would be correct about 2018 vs 2017 + prior. Even then, there's a way around that :p The challenge is to use a sensors angled for a steel wheel vs alloy - again, they do work but valves are just angled differently.

Great to hear you got it going!

I am similar position with wheel swap. I purchased a 2018 Tundra with steel wheels, then bought a set of 2015 Alloy Tundra 18” wheels however I am having issues with tmps system. Tire shop installed my existing sensors from steel wheels, installing them upside down. Initially, the system recognized the sensors in new wheels, however, after 30 miles, got a warning stating “ tire pressure system malfunction, please visit dealer.” I am unable to reset system..frustrating. Any suggestions?
