2016 platinum or 2018 CM TRD

Help me decide which truck to buy. 2016 Platinum for $32,000 with approxiametly 50,000 miles. It's a neighbors lease due in a few months. 2018 SR5 TRD with JBL upgrade for about $40,000. I have plenty of time to decide.

 

What engine in both

DC or CM?

Color?

That 2016 platinum if it’s a crewmax 5.7 and even better 4x4 would be amazing. Even a DC version of that.

 

Both are CM,have the 5.7 engine and are white.

 

I would go for the 2018 and mod it out little at a time, for me I would like the idea of it being brand new and own every mile put on it, and being able to build it to my liking and being able to look back and appreciate saying, I did that! JMHO!

Nothing wrong at all with used either as long as it check out ok!

Depends on whether or not you want the 2018 safety features and updated gauges. The Platinum is going to have way more creature comforts than the SR5, and you can always put the 2018 LED headlights in the 2016.

 

I cant tell you what to buy, but I purchased a Platinum in 2015 and I do like all of the creature comforts. I've been very happy with it.

 

This depends entirely on what you are after.

Platinum will have things you can't easily upgrade to, but some of the 2018 perks can be added to the Platinum. Safety stuff, larger fuel tank (idk if the SR5 has the 38 gal), and the instrument cluster display on the 2018 will likely be nicer.

This one is very subjective, with upsides to both.

I had a 2008 cm limited. Which in 08 was the top of the line. So memory seats power steering wheel telescoping power fold mirrors. I went and looked at the 2018 limited and there was none of those options. So i ordered the Platinum.

 

2016 Platinum all day for that price! That truck stickered for over $50K when it was new. Mileage is a bit high for year but I’m assuming mostly HWY miles? You’ll miss a few of the safety features added this year but you’re still loaded. Front and rear parking sensors, backup camera, rear cross traffic alert, and BSM are all standard on the 2016 Platinum. You’ll find there’s not a lot of love here for the TRD package either. Take the $ saved and do your own custom lift/suspension/wheel setup. Good luck!

Tough call! It depends what you are looking for......better equipment or more safety features and updated instrument cluster, the LED lights are a non-issue because you can retrofit them fairly reasonable. Also, if the Platinum has the 20" wheels put some decent tires on those (i.e. Michelin LTX AT2).

I have a 2018 Limited and really like it if I would have the choice you have and know the owner and that he treated the truck well I would probably go for the used Platinum and upgrade to OEM LED headlights, I wouldn't want an SR5 because I like heated leather seats and auto/dual HVAC.

 

Platinum all day long at that price, see if current owner can or did buy an extended warranty. I'd imagine kkb on that truck is around 40k, even with 50k miles on it. It should have the larger gas tank and you won't have to deal with the TSS issues that many are having with the 18's.

 

Tough choice but like most said on here, it really comes down to the features you want that can't be added easily later on, and if you plan to add many mods. I am partial to the Platinum but would probably look hard at a new one if you can swing it. That trade in value for the 2016 is on par with KBB and is probably worth $36-$37k, so it would be a pretty good deal. Seems many are getting 2018's for $47-$48 and you get new with full warranty.
