Are you just OME leafs no longer shackles??

Is so then yes Kings or ads would work.. if you had longer or shackles then you would need what I have

I have ome’s They did me well for the price... but they are not atlas or deaver... I would avoid if serious about off-roading or carrying weight unless you run additional airbags for heavy loads... mine now look like “W’s” 3 years later but they never failed me despite the absurd abuse I put them through..

I was planning on just the OME leafs. I think Deaver makes a better product but it requires longer shackles. Longer shackles = a custom shock (from what I’ve been told).

All work done by DMZ Fab and Race Prep. Not cheap, but quality of fabrication is top-notch. Deaver built some amazing packs. They ride super soft, even when unloaded. I will load up my full gear weight this weekend, but I don't expect it to sag more than an inch, if that.

Going with wider leaf packs helped a lot. More spring material supports the weight a lot better. 2.25" wide is just too thin for proper leaf packs on a heavy truck

Whole setup is Beef! Did you guys drop the gas tank to get the front hangers on? What is the hoop above the new hanger?

No didn't have to drop the tank. There is plenty of room to work on the hangers. The hoop above the hangers is the frame mounts for the bed cage. I have pics of the cage in my build thread in my signature

Ok, so, question. I was just under the truck checking on bolts and whatnots. Leaves are basically flat.

    EF45EC76-7EC0-41C8-A298-ED9BCB0BE0C9.jpg

I think I’m going to have to make some changes. They’ve been on the truck for 8 months. Just a bit over 7000 miles. It’s been on a handful of dirt excursions, nothing crazy. There’s a topper, Decked drawers (one drawer full with recovery gear), bumper with swing outs and a mounted full size spare.

This is my first full size truck and leaf spring experience. What should the life expectancy of U748s be? When would these be considered done? I totally understand the pay to play aspect but these shouldn’t be an annually replaced part, should they? Truck still handles great. Doesn’t feel loose. Doesn’t pogo down the road or anything.

I guess my options would be custom packs from Deaver or Alcan. Do I want to consider the 3” width? Alcan is way more convenient than Deaver since they are just over the hill. I’d rather drive over and pick them up than think about shipping cost...

Appreciate any and all input. Bonus points available for being a smart ass. Looking at you Mr. @KevinK...

Short answer yes. Go get your truck weighed. I am in the same boat. Only difference I have a cargo glide on top of the decked. The drawers are rated to hold 200 lbs each. I am not done yet adding weight. With just me in the truck and a full tank of gas 7,020 lbs.

I don't think those springs are designed to carry that among of weight. I am going to add some timbre. I have been looking at the icon rxt. You can configure those for 750 lbs. I don't think they last . If I was that close to Atlas, I be knocking on their door.

I could totally be a smart ass if I wasn’t on stock springs. :anonymous:

In reality the stocks have held up really well. Yeah the overload spring can cause bucking, but some rebound damping on the bypass shocks really helps tame that. I’m seriously considering just adding some icon bumps and calling it done until there’s more results on the rxt, 3” wide, and spring under (whatever pack @n2deep is looking at).

I get that the deavers and Alcon and everything else is supposed to be progressive, but I think that’s what’s killing them.

I know several guys have had success getting their springs rearched. If there’s a place local to you, that would be a good start. Also, get on a Cat scale at a truck stop and see how much your fat ass weighs.

Oh look. I was able to be a smart ass after all.

@smslavin Thanks for the update. This is getting really frustrating - I need to buy suspension next week for a 4-5 day trip upcoming in 2 months. I'm going to have pretty much the same set up as you except a roof rack and awning instead of a rear bumper and I'm reading about the Dakar's and now the U748's, both 2" "expo" leaf springs that allow you to run an off-the-shelf rear shock going flat after less than a year of use. Is there a winner out there somewhere? I see Icon has their RXT set but they recommend pairing them with the custom shocks made for the pack, something I don't want to do.

Who knows what I will end up with. Spending all my LT money since its taking so long , so may just have to stick with what I have. I just dropped my leafs off to get rearched and add a leaf. Once I shed weight I might be fine.

so much for the U748s able to handle a constant load...grrr...If I were you, pick the local guy, easy to go there when it's time to fix.
I picked Deaver because they are only 10 miles from me. When my K37s start to get flat, I will go knock at their door.

    What Zack said ^^

The long travel packs for tundra are I96 leafs. They're 2.25" wide. I had Jeff at Deaver make a pack that was the same length, but 3" wide with two main leafs and double military wraps. He speccd it for my exact axle weight (weighed at a local cat scale)

They are spectacular! Solved all my problems. I gained about a 4-6" lift (I didn't really measure) and they ride super soft. I got so excited I went and threw on some 37s, 800# coils and added another inch of lift in the front:

Start by calling Tim at DMZ and ask him about doing the job. Tell him Alex referred you. Once you are ready to actually do it, get your truck weighed at a cat scale (both axles) with your truck set up with all your gear for off road. Call Jeff at Deaver and tell him Alex sent you. Tell Jeff you are working with Tim and you want 3" wide leaf packs and give him your cat scale numbers. It will take Jeff 4-6 weeks to build the packs and DMZ will need a couple months lead time to get you on the schedule.

BTW, 3" wide packs are totally doable for mid-travel trucks as well and would hold the weight much better.
