My neighbor had to put a new motor in his 2017 EB. It puked on him pulling their camper thru British Columbia. He's a huge Ford guy- one of the top FORD salesman in the area- was/is a huge EB fan. He was driving a loaner for weeks and won't talk about the 'incident'. Haha.

True. My father-in-law has a '97 F150 with over 400K miles on it. Never had any problems with it, and he still drives it daily. His previous truck was an '86 F150 inline 6 that had well over 500K miles on it when he sold it. My sister-in-law has a mid '90s Ford Ranger with lots of miles, too. They're very loyal Ford fans, but I'll admit my past Ford-owning experience wasn't as good as theirs with two old Broncos I used to own.

I liked my two older full size Broncos (an '86 and a '93) but hated their extremely poor reliability. I went through 3 transmissions and 2 transfer cases between the both of them. I did the R&R myself in my driveway, cursing the Ford engineers for not taking into account ease of access for myriad hard to get to nuts and bolts. Even spark plug changes were way more difficult than any other vehicle I had worked on. Also had numerous starting problems and always at the worst, most inopportune times. A/C constantly broke down, making my 10 hour drives from Texas to Florida to visit family a fun drive in the infamous summertime heat and humidity of the South.

Despite those reliability problems, those Broncos sure have a great turning radius and wheelbase for off-roading. And I have fond memories cramming the kids and dog in mine and going on trips with them, always with some trepidation on whether it would make it without breaking down. I'd probably still have my '93 Bronco, even with all its reliability problems, as a secondary beater if my brother-in-law hadn't totaled it. Despite how difficult it was to drill through its thick frame, I was surprised that the frame bent as much as it did up front when he wrecked it. Ended up having to sell both for parts, ending my sojourn with Ford.

    Have you considered Raptor?
It hold it’s value too. I don’t care what everyone else say about Raptor in this forum but it indeed is a one of the best truck out there.

Ford F series truck sold in 2017 = 896,000 units

    Toyota sold Tundra/Tacoma in 2017 = 315,000 units (Tundra accounts for 116,000)

So if you compare the above numbers, ford sold 3 x more units. I understand that a lot of members in this forum are converts from Ford/GMC/Dodge.

If anyone remembers taking probability and Statistics in college, Ford is prone to more issues. Human beings tend to complain more then actually write a few words of appreciation here and there. Ofcourse, you will hear more whining then praising. I m not a brand loyalist by any means. I have had American, German and Japanese cars, never had issues w anything except my brand new Acura TL where the transmission failed at 1,600 miles. I ended up suing Acura and got the money back and then some.

In the new tech based economy, the idea of owning and keeping things is slowly going away and being replaced by “Subscription service”. Everyone is taking that route including the automakers.

I m not justifying Ford but there is a reason it has been the truck of the year even longer than Toyota Camry has been the car of the year.

We can’t say that the clowns in these magazines don’t know what they are doing when giving Ford the truck of the year award. Apparently, the same clowns awarding Toyota Camry the car of the year.

I was a solid GMC truck guy. My 99 GMC extended cab 4x4. purchased in 2003 Totally loved her. Lost the brakes in 2010. repaired the lines but in the process of fixing the lines I reached under the truck grabbed the frame to pull myself out and pulled a 12" section of frame. I ran her for almost 2 years held together with paint sticks and undercoating. After the brake bleed screws were gone had to banjo bleed the brakes. My wife asked me if I had seen the 2012 Tundra. I had not. Went for a look. Purchased a 2012 Tundra Double Cab. The ride so solid Power UNREAL totally great look. Really fun to drive. WILL NEVER GO GMC OR CHEVY AGAIN

technically aluminum cant catch fire, its usually all the other stuff that burns if I remember correctly. it can melt and transfer heat very well to make other things catch fire.

aluminum melts at 1200F compared to steel at 2500F. you can burn aluminum but you need a temp around 6.9k F (4100kelvin)

I am brand loyal. I’ve had 2 Fords. One was a car and the other a Ranger and both were total piles of shit. The Ranger had a shimmy in the drive train and after 2 sets of wheels, 2 drive shafts and new tires that hunk of shit still wobbled. I threw the keys to the service manager at Phil Long and told him to keep it. I fought with Ford and they eventually cleared the loan.
I’ve also had two GM vehicles and while one was fairly solid (2wd Sonoma) they both needed expensive repairs with very little miles on them.
Then, 20 years ago I bought my first Toyota and since then the issues I have had were minor. One blower fan motor for HVAC made noise in a 2010 Tacoma.
Buy whatever the hell floats your boat. I don’t care if they sell more units. They still have catastrophic failures that I very rarely if ever hear out of the Tundras.
I’ll stick with Yotas until they prove me wrong.

Yep....Aluminum melts...............The Burning Ford Super Duty Turned to Liquid
"According to sources that covered this fire when the news broke this morning, the Ford Super Duty body was reduced to droplets of molten metal. When a vehicle burns, it does not burn hot enough to melt the steel bodies so while things like the roof and the hood might soften and twist around the pile, a burning steel car or truck doesn’t literally melt. When a steel truck burns, there is still truck left when the fire burns out. On the other hand, if you have ever seen a vehicle with aluminum construction burn, it turns into a pool of metal. Aluminum has a much lower melting point so the heat of a burning vehicle is intense enough to literally turn the softer alloy into liquid."

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again I wouldn’t hesitate to buy an f150 the only reason I went with my tundra is the interior space. My old man is still driving my old f150 with 140k miles and it still runs perfectly; zero maintenance other than oil changes and hasn’t spent a penny on repairs. Granted the resale value is crap compared to a tundra, but it’s held up beautifully for my dad. He doesn’t plan on ever selling it so time will tell how long it lasts but it’s a 2001 and still going strong. I’ll never speak poorly of a Ford because I’ve never had any personal negative experiences with one. My wife’s parents have our old 2009 Corolla and at 136k miles it’s running rough. I’ll concede that in general Toyota’s are longer lasting vehicles but it all depends on the individual car or truck I guess. Nothing has spoiled me on fords at this point in my life though.

Interior space? I had a 12 Supercrew previously and interior space was similar to crewmax Tundra. Tundra back seat slightly more room. I could be wrong though since I have three car seats in mine and don't get to sit back there

I think done up Tundras look better and they're reliable, buy for ownership. I'd maybe consider one of the Big 3 if leasing. I'm very happy with mine:

Truck of the year has absolutely nothing to do with reliability. Also, I am not sure it is truly unbiased. I was a diehard F150 & Bronco owner for 30 years. That is the reason that I have owned 3 Toyota trucks in the last 10.

I just traded in a 15 f150 with the 3.5 boost for a tundra. In the first 35k miles I had a ton of issues. The morning after I purchased it the only 1/3 of the rear defrost worked so it went in to the shop which triggered a 7 day battle between the dealer and ford on whether or not it was related to wiring on the actual rear windshield. In the end ford shipped a whole new rear window and it was replaced. The speedo got stuck at 62 mph and would not move which required another visit to the service center for a whole new instrument cluster. A seat cover zipper came apart so I got a new seat cover (i now had my service advisor cell on speed dial). The brakes pulsated and they turned the rotors which worked for about 2 days and they turned them yet again which seemed to resolve it. A rear seatbelt spring broke so the belt just hung and clanked around. A bolt in the drivers seat was defective and the seat would shift when I made a sharp right or left turn. Around 30k I got a popping in the steering which ended up being the last straw for me as they could not figure out the issue after dropping my truck off from Tuesday to Friday for 2 weeks back to back (they also quit giving out rental cars so I had to uber home from work and did not have a car for that time during the week). They wanted me to bring it in for a 3rd week to try replacing the steering bushings and rack and pinion system(if bushings did not fix it) and I said that's enough and dumped it.

Hoping the Tundra will be in my driveway when i wake up and not the service center.

Ecoboost (and my guess is the 5.0 as well) mpg is overrated because the ford computer does not properly calculate gallons used. It will say that you used 30 gallons when you fill up but magically you can put 34 in.

He is very fortunate since it a 2001 especially if it has a 5.4. I had a 2001 Supercrew 4x4 5.4 and here is what I went through before clocking 95k. roof paint peeled, lower ball joints, 2 sets of plugs, fuel pump, 3 sets of tires and front brakes, intake manifold gasket set, 1-coil on plug, dent in door from kid just leaning against it. When it spit a plug out of #6 on a cold rainy xmas eve and left the ex and kids stranded that was the last straw. On top of all that it used a qt of oil every 1000-1500 miles from day 1. I talked to service manager and well within Ford's tolerance. Ford replaced a lot of 5.4s up to a point. Worst ownership and purchasing experience ever. 6 hours at dealership. Ex wanted a different color but dealership could not tell me what they had coming in. They had a white with tan bottom that fit what we wanted so I talked her in to it. I should have walked out during the price negotiations when I mentioned an ad that another dealer had and the sales guy said "go ahead I have never heard of anyone getting one for the ad price". There is DFW dealer that is offering $15k off right now on 4x4 XLT Supercrews. I think in DFW area they sell more Platinums and King Ranches than anything. $15 off puts those truck down around $37-$38k.
