Gents and Gals - I have $1500 I want to invest in an upgraded sound system for my 17 CM. I don't need navigation (never used it after day 1) and I don't need a CD player. I want to replace the HU, Amp, speakers and add a sub. Additionally I want:

    1. Bluetooth (obviously)
    2. Decent bass (I' want some thump)
    3. Maintain steering wheel controls
    4. Behind the backseat sub
    5. Speakers to support and a new amp
    6. Fit in the dash, no cutting

    Nice to have:
Input from tundra 'brain' to the head unit (gauges, MPH, Temp ect)
    Apple Play

Tell me what you have and if you like it!

Kenwood head unit. Several of us have the 994S which does have navigation, but they make some without the nav. You can then utilize the Maestro module to retain 95% of the functions of the factory head unit and steering wheel controls.

    I haven't
I haven't upgraded a stereo in years so I don't really know cost. I guess I will start at 1500 and shoot for an affordable solution.

$1,500 is pretty tight, but doable if you keep the facotry HU. A decent HU is going to eat a big chunk of your budget. Here’s the breakdown of my system (I kept the facotry HU):

    OEM Entune non-JBL w/ Nav
    Audio Control LC7i ($130)
    JL XD1000/5v2 amp ($830)
    Alpine Type-R SPR-60C 6.5" Components (front) ($330)
    Alpine Type-R SPR-60 6.5" Coaxials (rear) ($230)
    JL 10" TW3 subs x2 ($300/ea)
Audio Enhancers dual 10 box (sealed)
    Hushmat for doors ($50)
**waiting for audio control bass knob to arrive ($25)

Total for parts: $2,195 + speaker box (I don't remember this cost)

Op could do the same but go with something less expensive for the amp like the pioneer d9605 (around $250) and find some front and rear speakers for around $125/pair, and go with a single 10tw3 (or something cheaper like a Rockford Fosgate).
That would leave $400 for a head unit. assuming you are going to install everything yourself.

i believe it was @smooosh that did a great write up on the maestro integration kit showing what you gain/loose with going aftermarket

Do you have the factory JBL system. It's more expensive to upgrade that as far as I know, but maybe thats only if you keep the factory HU

If you look at my build page you will see i did a pair of Rockford Fosgste P3 10’s in a port enclosure behind the back seats. Box is just over 1.6 cubic feet. Think the subs were around 180 a piece. I would image a single 10 would be fine unless you are a bass head like me! :headbang:

Send @BOOMHAUER@TECH12VOLTS a PM or tech12volts an email. They will steer you in the right direction. And they are very realistic as to what can and can not be done within your budget.

If you do the kenwood dnx994s with maestro and the connects to retain ur factory xm and gps antenna then u lost a huge chunk of ur spending cash. I spent about 1200 on mine.

You could always buy a Harmon cadence amp for $100. I hear that's really all you need

On your cell phone do you have unlimited data and tethering? Then I would get a Phoenix Tesla head unit, the sound improvement over stock unit is way bettor with only stock speakers and my boys love watching you tube music videos.

You can get a Pioneer 4200 or 4201 nex in the 300s after rebate, I've seen the 8200 for $550 recently too
