Maybe in your opinion but that's not how I see it at all.

Why do you think Toyota's have a great reputation for quality and brands like Ford don't? Toyota doesn't change their designs every 2 years, they put a lot more R&D and engineering into their products. Companies like Ford try to use technology as their competitive advantage whereas Toyota sticks with building cars that will last. When I spend ~$40k for a new truck, I want quality and reliability and couldn't care less about technology. That's why I drive Toyota's and not Fords.

To each their own. I drive Rams and Fords for work. From F150s to F350s. They rattle, they get nanny lights on non stop and they overall just feel like they are built piss poor.
The Rams, lol! They are even worse.

But, if you need your ass cheek to jiggle when you sway from your lane then buy a Big 3.

Me, I’ll buy Toyota’s. In all of my time owning them I have never had a serious issue...

I'll throw my .02 in. I've had Ford's & Dodges before my Tacoma and now have the Tundra. I drive 100 miles a day and the Toyota's have never let me down unlike the Ford's. So here's 2 stories from guys I work with. 1st guy had a big jacked up Rocky Ridge F150, goes on vaca and transmission goes out at about 50k miles. Truck is under warranty but he's still 6 hrs from home with a rental. So what's he do? Trades for a brand new Rocky Ridge. Some people never learn. 2nd guy has a 2012 XLT Lariat he bought new. Recently he would be driving and it would quit for no apparent reason while normal driving. Had it towed 3 times and spent almost 4k on it over the last 6 mos with nothing wrong found at the dealership. Not sure the exact mileage but it was under 100k. So what's he do? Goes and buys a brand new Platinum 150 with a sticker of 68k. Some people never learn

It literally is ingrained in some people minds on what brand to buy. Whether it’s “buy American” or “my pappy drove a Ford”.
Sometimes it just can’t be fixed..

Thanks to those who shared their experiences. I had good luck with Toyota's so far and I am hesitant to jump ship because of the reliablility. I have been going to the F150 forums and have been reading up on them. I do IT so I know the pitfalls of technology and the issues that come up, especially since neither manufacturer will probably support their systems infotainment systems after a few years. I really don't listen to the radio at all and if I do it's usually talk radio. I would like to listen to my podcasts though, especially on longer trips. Having google maps or Waze on the screen would be nice to see traffic alerts etc though. I have been following the aftermarket stereo thread and will probably stop at a car audio place and talk to them about what the possibilities are with a Tundra.

I am going to be picking up an F150 to do an overnight test drive today so I will get an more in-depth experience with it. I did an overnight with a Tundra last year and liked it, but will probably do it again with a 2018.

I drive less than 10,000 miles a year, and using fueleconomy.gov It looks like I would be saving about $300 a year in gas with the F150, so not something I could not absorb cost wise. I will get an insurance quote on the F150 and will do the same with a Tundra and post up what my insurance costs would be.

I know no vehicle is perfect and they both have their pluses and minuses.

For those who have the factory Tundra spray in bedliner, how has it been holding up? Any UV fade? The factory liner and Line-x seem to cost about the same so I would like whatever would be best.

It's amazing to me how much Toyota leaves off and overcharges for what you do get. I'm a Toyota fan, but I'm not blind. The seats ride like buckboards and the headrests are terrible, there's no storage under the back seat (although there is this giant styrofoam hump covered by cheap carpeting), The navigations sucks as does the entire Entune package (why can't we have CarPlay?), LED lighting everywhere should have been standard since 2008, the cheap plastic front end is pathetic, why can't we have real bumpers, every model should come with power tailgate lock, etc. The good thing is the power rear window and they should bring back the sliding rear seats WITH locking storage underneath, standard.

The funniest thing about all the other trucks is that silly drive-thru window in the rear. What the hell is the point of that? Never understood why anyone would want that. Reminds me of the triangle vent windows all cars had back in the '50's and '60's.

I SOLD my '16 Tundra Limited after 4 months because:
    1- I hate the headlights
2- Dash light, especially the ODO area
3- Final straw is when dealer replaced the defective leather seat and made it 100x worst.

However, I would buy a NEW 2018 with these LEDs headlights and new dash design, may be a TRD Sport version if I need/want a truck now.

@Mark843 My advice would be to find a couple year old Tundra and F150 with similar mileage and go for a test drive in each. That will give you a good picture of what the actual build quality is. Listen for squeaks and rattles and pay close attention to which feels tighter and more solid. I have money on the Tundra in all respects.

Good luck. The Fords are nice no doubt but reliability, resale and build quality have my hard earned money in the Tundra. Cam tower is a issue but like others have said it's a fixable issue that sometimes never gets past a seep. That and it usually shows up well before the 60K warranty is up and your covered. On top of that Toyota knows it's an issue and I have heard of guys getting it fixed well past warranty coverage.

Ford's are disposable, that's why. My dad has been disposing of his Ford's my whole life. I don't think one ever lasted him past about 6 years .

I owned a 2013 F150 XLT Supercrew 5.0L. Its the reason there will never be another Ford on my property again. I had a 2017 as a loaner a few timea while mine was in the shop. It was even worse.

If you want reliability, balls and a truck that will start when you want it to and last longer than you, simple not loaded with tech get the tundra. If you want fancy shit that could potentially cause more problems, with a soda can body get the ford.

I was in the same boat as you. I joined an f150 forum and learned for those members the trucks have so many issues ranging from transmission, start stop feature and motor. One member broke it down like this...if you want a pretty truck with bells and whistles but will occasionally have issues, get the ford...if you want a workhorse, reliable truck but behind the times in interior technology, get the tundra. Once I heard diehard ford owners were complaining about the 150 I got tundra. Not to mention I test drove the 150 several times and they all had transmission issues. Apparently the new 10 speed sucks.

I have the F150 right now to test drive. I sent an email to the Toyota salesman about taking a look at the Tundra again, so I am waiting to hear back form him.

Insurance is about $100 more with the F150 after getting quotes.

I joined one of the F-150 forums a few years ago just to learn about 'em. Made the mistake of mentioning a Tundra in one of my questions to the members. Had some pretty "entertaining" replies, some of the phrases used, I haven't heard since I was a teenager:crapstorm:What a CLASSY bunch!

    Why tundra over F150? Hmmm

    Mature answer:
F150 is a piece of shit!

I owned 97 f150. It blew the bearings out at 67,000 miles or so. The truck was great...when it worked.
